Maximin, priest in a little village in the South-West of France, inherits from his brother a brothel in Thailand, although he's always been told it was a very strict catholic school. The journey to Asia is full of surprises (a plane hi-jack, pirates...) and once in Thailand, Maximin is taken into 'political' turmoils.

Excellent but underrated film

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

-Mon curé chez les Thaïlandaises is a movie from a rebelious mind. This Hard edged "satire" of Tourism and tourists let us gaze Thru marvelous locations with a pristine quality photography (stunning colors for example). The plot is sophisticated built, i'm sure it's a tribute to the work of Jean-Paul Sartre and particulary to: "l'étre et le néant. A must see for all the lovers of french: "nouvelle vague". Maurice Rich is not only a fabulous actor (like Brando they have the same weight) but as well a true of Jean-Paul Sartre (if only he was more fatso). If you pretend to like cinema you can't pass this masterpiece over and if you think of this movie as a silly nonsence you are right too, that's why it's a wonderfull piece of art... I suppose that both director and scenarist have decided to make this flick after reading some Sartre and over drinking bad wine sessions..This film is like a hangover, and to base someone work under such rules is not a bad idea...

It's so incredible that such movies could have been done. The point is: they have been done. they belong to French culture as much as our "camembert" and our famous bread. Now they're completely forgotten or hidden in actors' filmographies who no longer want to have anything to do with them. Mon Curé chez les Thailandaises is a perfect example to illustrate that kind of awful Z comedies which once ruled over the local box office. Bad actors who didn't know what to do to pay for their taxes, directors who took advantages of shooting to travel free all around the world... Well, the inspiration behind these films had nothing with art. Mon Cure chez les Thailandaise is basically a sequel to Mon curé chez les nudistes, a very bad and therefore funny movie which hit the french box office in 1983. It was even worse than the original and was seen by a handful of viewers who seemingly didn't know what to do on their Sundays. This sequel is supposed to take place in Thailand, but it was actually shooted in the Parisian Chinatown and in the surroundings of Paris. The screenplay was being written while the film was shot. The actors who couldn't believe in what they were doing, did their utmost to enjoy themselves and sometimes managed to enjoy the viewers too. Well if you have time to waste and want to have a look into the hidden side of French cinema, this film is for you, if you can find it in your local video store, which is quite unlikely. Good luck.
