Let's be realistic.

Good story, Not enough for a whole film

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

I'll keep this short. This movie is not good. My Super Ex-Girlfriend sounds like it could have some potential, but ends up living up to none of it. The movie is just a cliché of every Romantic-Comedy that leans more towards comedy. Actresses like Uma Thurman just don't throw themselves into crap do they? (She might have done this to get out of contract or was obligated, I don't know.)It has all your typical ingredients for that genre; You have your soft spoken, semi- successful, if not weak male protagonist. Add a dash of quirky, wanna-be-womanizer best friend. Then there is your most necessary ingredient to the more "comedic" Romantic- Comedies, the independent, strong and strong character woman protagonist friend(s). Add a side of a threat to the Protagonsts' relationship, in this case, another woman, as usual that woman is a...co-worker.However I take it the writers of the movie changed the recipe a bit, skip the courting of the Male-Female and turn the Female into the antagonist! Also, give her super powers. That's really the WHOLE movie. This bland and mediocre comedy crap goes by so fast because it's predictable. Also it feels as though there is so little character development that the movie does end up movie too fast. It's roughly 90m but feels like a 30m sitcom...on cable.It also feels like a sitcom because there's a lot of ads in the middle, at some points during the movie I was seriously contemplating the idea that this movie was literally made only for Product Placement! It's downright pathetic. The acting isn't actually bad though, even Uma Thurman's character, however poorly developed and shallow is acted as well as it possibly could. Nothing that stands out though, except Eddie Izzard's HORRIBLE "American Accent." He can't do it, period. He must have had trouble doing the accent, as the British accent pops in & out randomly during his few lines.So let me just bluntly say a few words to describe this movie. Corny, fast paced, empty, hollow, shallow and mediocre. Cheap, predictable, cliché and advertisement. I recognize those people. The movie is over already? I'll never get those two hours back.

This movie has an irresistible premise:Guy jilts girl with superpowers and she takes full force Fatal Attraction-style revenge on him, heat vision and all. Since it takes about half of the movie to set this all up, the early going is a bit slow and predictable, but even then the audience is well entertained by some very good superhero effects, a fun supervillain (Prof. Bedlam) and especially Uma's performance as a very neurotic single who hasn't dated much in order to protect her secret identity. Uma makes the movie, as nerdy Jenny Johnson / super-powered G-Girl in a convincing, sharp edged comic turn. Luke Wilson gives his usual doughnut hole performance as a supposed every-dude, but Rainn Wilson has a funny turn as a pig male hustler wannabe. Once the Revenge of the Ex action kicks into gear, things get really fun, and the fur really flies between Uma and Anna Faris as a competing super heroine.

Considering the concept and a cast that includes Luke Wilson, Uma Thurman, Anna Faris, Wanda Sykes and Rainn Wilson I was expecting something funny. 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' has its moments in the first half but the writing is inconsistent and lacking in imagination. The characterization is also at fault. While the first half has some funny moments, largely thanks to the cast, the second half shifts from dreadful to abysmal. The movie neither works as a superhero action flick nor a romantic comedy. While the chemistry between Luke Wilson, Uma Thurman and Anna Faris is good, the whole Eddie Izzard track felt forced and out of place. Sykes is wasted and Rainn Wilson is cast as the clichéd horny geeky friend who rambles on about sex. Speaking of clichés, much of the humour is formulaic and over-the-top. I also found the change of haircolor from brown to blonde or blonde to red, the enlargement of breasts etc as they change from women to superheroine to be at least a bit superficial. Anyway, 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend' could have easily been better but it isn't much good now.

Whats wrong with people? OK, it's not a classic but nevertheless My Super Ex-Girlfriend is an entertaining, engaging movie with an interesting storyline. in fact, the premise is brilliant and could have been done in all kinds of different ways. What is engaging about the movie is that though a super-heroine and her powers are at the centre of the action, the other characters are guy or gal next door. We can all identify with this kind of situation. Many of us have been in it, but we can only imagine what it would be like if the ex- girlfriend had the powers of a super-heroine - or we can watch My Super Ex-Girlfriend. To say this movie is in any way sexist is absurd. More sexy than sexist. The scene above Times Square fulfils a long held fantasy of mine. I loved the New York setting and there are some great views of the city. For me, all the actors were great, especially Uma Thurman. Saw it on Film4 in the UK, 8 Jan 11.
