Such a frustrating disappointment
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
View MoreIt’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.
View MoreSimple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
View MoreFirst of all, this is a science-fiction romance movie. It tries really hard to give you that but fails miserably. Plain and simple. If you are reading this and wonder if you should watch it or not and if it is worth your time or not, the answer is no: it doesn't. Lead actor and actress' attractiveness may interest you and it did most possibly make audience biased(7.1 really?) yet i wouldn't waste my time on this. 1 for future potential movies based on "losing senses", 2 for employing most beautiful actress of all time and 1 for actor: 4/10
View MoreI had heard about this film in my college film class while we were learning about sound in film. The final 5 minutes of this movie was used as an example, where all we heard was the beautiful music while they were deaf and trying to find each other. I almost started crying in front of 78 other students, so I figured that I should give this movie a watch. I am not usually someone who really watches romantic movies, but the premise of how they're losing their senses really grabbed my attention, as I do have an interest in apocalyptic movies (and yes, this counts as one of those). For a "romantic" movie, it did not go at a slow pace in any part. The loss of senses would come at perfect moments, allowing time in between for adaptation, then ripping it away with the next loss. It kept the movie feeling fresh and kept the pace going strong.I was not let down a single bit. This movie is such a wonderful emotional experience. The visuals are incredible, especially the cinematography by Giles Nuttgens. The soundtrack is gorgeous, especially when the deafness comes. The look of the movie is a cloudy, depressing look, and with good reason. It's an extremely depressing situation, and what lies ahead of losing their senses is inevitable starvation then death. So it makes sense that they went with a glummer visual tone. Also the dialogue was excellent, it felt like the two were really having a special connection, and nothing was corny about it. In fact it reminded me of real life relationships. The ending was absolutely spectacular. I wish that I didn't see it in my class because it would have been so much more impactful, but I still got to have the emotional response that I held back seeing the original clip. It made me want to do what they were doing; embrace someone. Overall such a phenomenal movie and it's unfortunate it didn't have more success than it did. I have absolutely nothing wrong with this movie, so I give it a 10/10. Definitely check this one out.
View MoreAwesome. Can't believe I missed it when it came out, let alone missed hearing about it. As four years have gone by, there'e nothing I can add to the enthusiastic raves for PERFECT SENSE so my Comment will be little more than a strong recommendation to serious film buffs to not miss this film. Whether or not you consider yourself a film critic, this is not an "art" film. What appears to have disappointed those who canned P-S is the minimal treatment of the science fiction vehicle driving the love story core; i.e., just enough treatment to make the "epidemic" plausible enough so we can grasp the presence and impact of human emotions, resilience, desire and needs. The same can be said of UNDER THE SKIN, a more recent film which, like P-S, hit only a niche audience and was panned by the science fiction geeks looking for INDEPENDENCE DAY. Both films use science fiction merely as a vehicle though ordinary humanity is at the heart of both.
View MoreIt's not that often I write feedback on IMDb, a film has to move me an awful lot for me to do that. Perfect Sense moved me from the start. I had this instinct that it was going to be pretentious nonsense masquerading as art house and I was spot on. It's produced about as well as you'd expect of a 1st year media studies student, although that fits the story, which is about as interesting as that written by a grade one primary pupil. Everyone in the world cries, then loses their sense of smell. No-one knows why. Then they lose their sense of taste too. Amidst all of this is the story of 2 people who meet and start a relationship, which is poorly acted and utterly unbelievable. The constant voice-over is meant to add some kind of gravitas to the movie with a despondent death knell of a message which sounds like it was written by a 10 year old. That's enough, this film is utter, total rubbish and I am quite annoyed that I wasted 90 minutes of my life suffering this tripe.
