Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
Excellent film with a gripping story!
Beautiful, moving film.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
View MoreGood in its own right, but not as a sequel. Instead, it plays more like a prequel. This film is more of a slasher, although justified since the murders are not random and well explained. The plot is not that great either, but the film was nevertheless still enjoyable.
View MoreMean-spirited and ugly direct-to-video sequel to a great '80s horror film. Starts off with a flashback to some kids taunting a boy with some kind of disfiguring disease. The taunting turns to murder. This is an especially bleak way to start the film. Back in the present day, Sheriff Braddock (Andrew Robinson) moves his family from New York to the small Southern town where he grew up. His daughter (Ami Dolenz) starts hanging out with the wrong crowd. The wrong crowd in this case looks like three Saved By the Bell rejects and a kid dressed up like Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club.Wrong crowd kids run down the mother of flashback victim. They take her home, where they discover she is preparing to do the ritual to resurrect her son. Why she waited decades to do this is never explained. Then, the leader of the wrong crowd kids (J. Trevor Edmonds) steals a vial of blood and the spell from her house. He and his friends then go do the spell and raise Pumpkinhead. Why they do this makes no sense. Just being morons I guess. From here, you can pretty much guess what happens. Pumpkinhead starts killing people off right and left. A couple of these scenes are fairly amusing. Obviously an inferior sequel in every regard. The performances of the cast range from bad to bored. Roger Clinton was obviously cast for publicity purposes. I refuse to call what he does here acting. He speaks his lines, let's put it that way. Special effects are cheap and don't compare to Stan Winston's first film. Makeup effects for the old lady are far less impressive and Pumpkinhead design is unimaginative. Suspense and atmosphere is non-existent. Directed by Jeff Burr. He's just a terrible director who has made some really awful films his entire career. I guess he knew the right people because talent did not keep getting him work. It's a crap sequel, to be sure, but sadly better than the mess that would follow in the 2000s.
View MoreSheriff Sean Braddock (Andrew Robinson), his wife, and his daughter Jenny (Ami Dolenz) have moved back to his childhood home of Ferrin Woods from big, bad New York City, where Jenny got into trouble. She quickly falls in with the wrong crowd again and soon she and beau Danny (J. Trevor Edmond) are riding around town with their headlights off. Crazy kids! This causes them to hit ol' witch Miss Ossie and, when they go to check on her, they end up resurrecting ol' monster Pumpkinhead, who has a score to settle with some town folks. This direct-to-video follow-up saw poor director Jeff Burr doing his third sequel in a row (following THE STEPFATHER II and THE Texas CHAIN SAW MASSACRE III). Not really much worthwhile in this one. You'll probably get a laugh of the opening credit "Roger Clinton as Mayor Bubba." Unfortunately, this crew doesn't even have the brains to have him make a joke like, "You better solve these murders Sheriff or I'll give a call to my big brother." C'mon, really? The incredible monster from the first film gets redesigned by KNB here and it is not for the better, looking much more like a man in a suit. Look for horror icons Linnea Quigley and Kane Hodder in small roles. It would be 12 years before Pumpkinhead came back in two direct-to-SyFy sequels that were actually worse than this.
View MorePumpkinhead II may not be one of the worst movies I've ever seen, but it really does make you ask why was it made.First off, let me point out that I'm a huge fan of the original Pumpkinhead, it has great atmosphere, brilliant SFX, little to no gore (BTW, I don't believe that gore makes a good horror film), and great acting, especially from Lance Henriksen. the sequel on the other hand, well.Like everyone else, I hate how they ignored the first film, especially how Pumpkinhead is now a generic slasher villain instead of a demon who kills for vengeance.I also didn't like how the demon itself is never called Pumpkinhead, in fact, it's called Tommy throughout the whole flick. I think it's because of the fact that after Tommy died (He was killed by 1950's Christian auto-bullies), his spirit went into the body of Pumpkinhead after some teens decide to resurrect him. Which raises the question how stupid and bored do you have to be to think, OK gang, let's bring an angry spirit back to life?As for the SFX, they're passable, but not as fantastic as Stan Winston's effects from the first film. At least it's better than CGI though. The acting was standard, but I give high praise for Andrew Robinson's performance. In the end though, if they made the demon look different and just simply call it Bloodwings, it wouldn't be the greatest horror movie, but it would be better than what we got instead. The movie itself is just OK, i don't have too many praises or complaints with it, I don't recommend it a whole lot, but hey at least it's BETTER than 3 and 4. Trust Me, this one's a masterpiece compared to 3 and 4.4/10
