If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
View MoreThis movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
View MoreThere is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
View MoreI thought it was a pretty good flick considering that i can't stand reading movies as if they were comic books... and this film in particular certainly qualifies as one to say the very least. i.e.; -(G.I. Joe from Korea meets Fangoria) The only aspect of this film that had me scratching the dandruff outta my head was wondering who it was that played the role of Sergeant 1st class Beck... the Black-American g.i. soldier in the film whos'e role went uncredited. Does anybody out there in IMDb- land know the actors name who played the role of Sergeant Beck? Perhaps I may have dozed a bit between snoozing and the Twilight Zone, but I'd also like to know how Joey Anselmo fit into the film as I don't recollect seeing him anywhere throughout the entirety of this creature-feature Asian thriller.
View Morer-point is a cursed place on a battlefield where something terrible happened over thirty years ago. now a group of soldiers have found this place and are going to stay there while hiding from enemies.what these soldiers do not know is that this place is haunted by spirits of the past's dead. soon strange things begin happening and the men are not sure what they should do. many do not believe in spirits but what is happening cannot be explained any other way.r-point is a very scary movie in a non traditional way. it builds suspense and terror slowly by using the soldiers of the present and the ghosts in the past. the results are great, intense, and truly frightening.if you are a horror fan you need to check this one out, even if you do not like foreign movies. it is a great creepy film.
View MoreThe plot of R Point revolves around a Korean platoon operating near the end of the Vietnam war. They are sent out to investigate the disappearance of some allied soldiers in/near a ruined fort in Vietnam. Upon arrival it is obvious that the location to which they have been sent is somehow menacing and that the area might be haunted. This is by no means a Hollywood style, all out horror flick, and for myself this was its strength: The film starts in a fairly relaxed way, but subtly becomes more and more eerie as it progresses. There is no 'turning point' as such in the story, where things go from bad to worse. Instead we have a sense of growing menace and foreboding. The subtlety with which this is achieved is excellent. The characters are well developed and have distinct personalities of their own rather than behaving like generic 'movie soldiers'. This helps add to the realism as collectively the platoon starts off just fine but gradually descends into a nightmare.Whilst not especially gory, R point is a genuinely scary flick. There are a number of strange plot twists which keep the viewer wondering exactly where this whole thing is headed. The camera work is also good and the location has been chosen well. The area in which the story unfolds is dark, deserted, seemingly miles from civilisation and has an air of isolation and evil hanging over it. All in all this goes down as one of my favourite horror films, a sort of blend of Apocalypse Now and Ring with an originality of its own. The film is intelligent, haunting and the characters believable. All in all, definitely worth watching =)
View MoreR-Point is an example of the rare genre hybrid of the war/horror movie. Other notable examples include Apocalypse Now and Jacob's Ladder; however, R-Point is a more direct war/horror hybrid, with supernatural goings-on and your traditional Asian she-ghost.Although the premise of the film holds a lot of potential for the exploration of war themes, particularly in regards to reflections on the sins committed during war and the slow descent into madness that's well exhibited in Apocalypse Now as well as other issues dealing with the horrors of war. And although the film does deal, to some degree with the horrors of war, the film is primarily a horror film set against a war backdrop.Specific weaknesses of the film include poorly developed characters (it's difficult to be afraid if you're not attached to the characters), stereotypical and predictable horror moments (including reveals that aren't exactly surprising, considering the non-mysterious nature of the supernatural forces), and somewhat contrived script which sets things up too conveniently for the events of the movie. The story could've been better, along with the execution. There are some thrills and chills and that slow creepy Asian horror vibe that some people enjoy, so it's not a total loss. The primary problem with the film is that it looks like it's trying to make a larger comment on Korean involvement in Vietnam, but it fails because it spends too much time focusing (somewhat poorly) on the supernatural horror elements of the film. It's okay. You could do better, as far as horror and war films go, but if you're interested in an East Asian take on the war/horror film, this is all you have to choose from. 6/10
