A coming-of-age story centered around a small-town singer brokenhearted by the death of her brother in a car crash, who had secretly submitted her for a summer session at a performing arts academy in Los Angeles. In the academy, she experiences a whole new way of life in the big city, far from the small town lifestyle she's used to.

Surprisingly incoherent and boring

A very feeble attempt at affirmatie action

All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

I'm amazed at the "love it" comments, vs the "anti-Duff" comments. RT rates it at 15%, and it probably would be that if another actress was the lead. The mood of the movie was wrong, and even Duff couldn't quite bring it out its pit, or maybe casting Duff was wrong if they wanted a in the pit movie (which I don't think was their intention). Lots of people criticise Duff for this movie, when the problem is the casting and directing of it. They appear to have hired Duff to lighten up the movie, but she can only do so much, and the task was probably beyond any actress. It really needed a lot of work done to it before being made into a final product.

I used to like hilary duff as a child but the older I got I couldn't stand her. this movie was OK. the lead was OK but since when did it be okay to lie to your own husband, brother and father? since when did it become okay to sneak out to go to a concert? there some believable parts and some that were not believable. There some major flaws in this movie for sure. this movie is maybe a 2 if on a scale at all. Jay and Teresa? the songs were OK but sounded a voice over on some of the songs. the movie is predictable. I think the story line in the movie needed work. there were too many things that were not adding up. how could anyone get accepted into music school with no training? the movie had potential however there major parts missing from the movie, how could anyone lie to make themselves happy? how could anyone go away to music school after losing a sibling? it was her fault he was dead in the first place, the more you watch the movie the more you want to throw something at the directors.

Hillary Duff of CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 1 and 2 stars in this plodding kids-oriented tale about a young singer who attends a summer music program at a private school in LA. Her father thinks she's visiting her aunt in the desert, since he is dead set against this. What might have been another SISTER ACT 2 or MR. HOLLAND'S OPUS, to name a couple of well-known movies about musically talented kids, proves to be a disaster. The director, who clearly was not up to the job, provides only bits and pieces of musical numbers and keeps the focus on Duff, who is not an actress and only a so-so singer. Frankly, she also does not look right for the part but I will be charitable here and keep mum about her physical failings. The big finale is a dud, due in no small measure to the cameraman and editor, who completely screw up the presentation of Duff's recital. A better script might have helped, too, as nothing happens in this movie that we haven't seen a hundred times before. Rita Wilson, Rebecca DeMornay and David Keith are wasted as the adults in Duff's life. Only John Corbett as one of Duff's instructors comes across as interesting and believable, but alas, he is a bit player here. Skip it.

Some bad lines, seriously bad makeup on all characters (sorry) , Some over produced notes BUT has everything i wanted from it! Has a lot of drama and OMG moments. Overall i liked it. I loved the song and the cast meshed nicely. The 'relationship' between Hilary & Oliver was realistic and lovable. Its a Clean Teen Family Movie! the relationship is full of innocent moments and Hilary plays them well. The Car crash scene was very well done... it was nice that it wasn't over done with special effects! gave me shivers! Easy and clear storyline to follow!!! The film covers a lot of emotional times and hard choices... it covers a lot of issues and has a good happy-go-lucky soundtrack.i love it xSx87x
