This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

Good drama, based on a true story. Bitter-sweet, and very moving. Starts very lamely and takes a while to get going, and is a bit uneven once it does get going. However, all this is made up for by the emotion it engenders.Good performances by Josh Lucas, Rachael Taylor and Koko (as Red Dog). Also features Keisha Castle-Hughes in a minor role. Supporting cast are hit-and-miss though.

If as other reviewers say this is one of the better films coming out of Australia, then it's living proof Australian film industry is dead! This is a truly awful film, and I rarely don't watch a film to the end but 30 minutes saw the film switched off and the disk returned. Poor directing, terrible acting and plot Give it a miss I honestly can't find anything good to say about the film It's certainly not a family film as even my 10 year old who loves dogs Hated the film Repeatedly she asked me what is happening Enough said I can't even fill 10 lines. I must have been watching a different film to others red Cat.... Now that would make a good film... not!

After seeing the movie, I questioned myself why I even watched it. It is a dull story of a stray dog which people adore for no reason. S what if the dog was searching for its owner? It was just following it's instincts, it was not from true heart. An instinct is like a looping program. Dogs are programmed to stay near their owner. It just followed its program! Whereas a dog is always happy to see its owner, you need to work to get your cat's respect. That is the difference between a cat and a dog. There is no such thing as animal loyalty. Only people are capable of that. Do not think that animals are equal to humans in emotions, because animals will always stay beasts and they must never replace a human. That is that. Since there is no 0 rating, I give 1/10+1 for beautiful landscapes which distract you from the movie.

A dog movie. An Australian dog movie. Not promising I thought. How wrong I was though ... this turned out to be an absolute gem!The acting was not the best but that didn't actually detract from the movie because the focus was firmly on the story and it's star Red Dog, played brilliantly by Koko. This true story (with artistic embellishment no doubt) is laid out in a simple screenplay based on flashbacks to the 1970s recounted by various characters remembering the events surrounding Red Dog. The cinematography is great -- the Western Australian backdrop is really used fully to deliver varied light patterns, treeless plains, blue ocean, and the constant sense of dry heat.I highly recommend this to dog lovers, cat lovers, those looking for a laugh, or a cry, or anyone else for that matter -- loved it! Go Red!
