That was an excellent one.
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
View MoreA movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
View MoreWhen this film first started, I thought that it must be a sequel to some other film that had ended with a group of hopeful people escaping in a car. When it ended, I was left feeling that it needed a further sequel.I.e. it's the usual standard semi-boring second part of a trilogy, the one that continues the story from the first part and sets things up for the third part. Unfortunately (or perhaps not), the first and third parts don't exist. As others have said, and will say: a few good actors, a lot of bad script. There's no real MacGuffin, and even when something looks like one, it changes to something else.
View MoreI love trashy horror movie. Movies with a budget of 5 thousand dollars but they still manage to make a good movie out of it. The excellent cheapo movie swamp zombies springs to mind. Cheap but they pushed to the boat out as far as possible. Martial arts and zombies make a good mix.I watched the preview of Rise of the zzzzzzz before venturing into the movie. It certainly seems to have a budget. It also has some fading stars in it. Basically the plot goes like this. The last remaining survivors are hold up on Alcatraz. The zombies cannot get there. Think again the zombies attack. Zzzzzzzzzz Then the have to go on the run to get the serum to save the world. Zzzzzzz This is feeble stuff. You do not like anyone because they fail to build up the characters at the start. Though it has to be said that there is a dog in it. That is why I give it one star. The dog is cute. If you do not like dogs this is a 0 out of 10 movie.Bad effects, bad story, bad dialogue, bad pacing, bad musics but a good dog.Really I wish I had not bothered.
View MoreWell, not sure if this is a spoiler or not, but hey, it's not a _bad_ movie if you don't expect too much, and have enough cold frosty beverage.Seriously, it had a couple of decent actors (and the leads pretty much phoned in their stuff, so we can take them out of the Oscar possibilities, huh?), but overall, this was one of those things that cried out for excessive alcohol consumption. And frankly, the "good" acting was generally wasted due to directorial ineptitude. Yeah, Burton didn't suck, but gee, could someone make his character at least not all that predictable? And don't even get me started on the 0.5-dimensional Trejo character or Hemingway... I _wanted_ to like the flick. Zombies could possibly pose a serious problem if we neglect the possibility of an uprising. But NOOO.... We have movies of this quality to indoctrinate our youts with. Which isn't going to work if we are to triumph over the walking undead. So, if you watch this, consider it nothing but bland entertainment, with absolutely no training value.Seriously, worth a buck rental, if you got a good deal on the beer...
View MoreI must say I was somewhat impressed by this little zombie movie. I was a bit hesitant about it being SyFy produced and all, but I'm glad i saw it. It's not a classic in any way but nice group of actors in it.The Butch-like manly Mariel Hemingway as Dr. Lynn Snyder was a disappointment. She seems not to be a good actor. At least in this film. her lines seemed forced and somewhat off delivered. She seems to have that 'Butch-like Lesbian thing going on so in a way she seemed natural as a scientist turned soldier thing.Big & funny intense Ethan Suplee as Marshall was somewhat miscast. he seems to large body-wise to be this religious/military guy who is 'falling' for Lynn. They have no chemistry whatsoever. The always great LeVar Burton as Dr. Dan Halpern was a treat. Made me think how he would have handle the Will Smith role in "I Am Legend". He did a good job here.Mr. Bad Ass himself, Danny Trejo as Captain Caspian did pretty good too. He even got to play a zombie! The beautiful Heather Hemmens as Ashley. Did an okay job. What I really liked was that for the 1st time I can remember a character in a zombie film just says "forget it it's not worth living anymore" and just commits suicide. The funny French Stewart as Dr. Arnold. His video feeds with the chimpanzee are the only humorous bits in the film! The serious Chad Lindberg as Kyle. He did okay also. i liked his scenes where he hated to kill his friend Trejo's Caspain but had to do it because Caspian was a zombie coming for him and when he gets to the so-called rescue Center in Petaluma by himself and discovers it's gone and taken over by the zombies.
