Best movie of this year hands down!

It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

I decided to watch this because I liked the title. Had I known that Keira Knightly was in it I might have chosen something else. I wish I had chosen something else.I would formally like to state to all other nations that not all English women talk like Keira Knightly. Not many people in the UK actually talk like that at all. It is really really annoying so I'm glad that we don't.I got a bit excited right towards the end when Steve Carell was going through Knightly's characters record collection and he flicked past Magnetic Fields 69 Love Songs. I was hoping to just hear one track from it to take my mind off this dull, rather pointless film, but alas, it didn't happen. You just get to hear loads of Scott Walker.

Now this film should've been much better than it actually is. I mean, look at the premise, look at the cast. Instead it ended up being a largely disregarded film. And yet it never quite lives up to its billing, and I don't think made much of a dent at the box office. Both Carell and Knightley do well in their respective roles, if lacking a bit of chemistry, but this film doesn't seem to know whether it's a comedy or a drama, ending up as so many films do, with being neither. It's a shame because as I say, this film should've been much better than what it ended up being.

I watched this film expecting humour. In fact there is almost no humour at all, except of the drollest type. The way the low-key almost matter-of-fact radio and television announcers give us snippets of information about Armageddon spiced with little gems of mundanes like "don't forget to change the clocks" hours before the end of the world really call the tone of this wonderful film. Carell and Knightly excel as never before, and Carell proves once again that being a superb comedy actor means being a superb actor. Anyone who has faced serious danger or illness knows how the whole of your past rears its ugliness and its wonder and in an instant life becomes precious and every second suddenly has meaning. All the trash falls away and at last you can see what really matters and who you really love. The vinyl sixties music is cleverly introduced with its hippy like simplicity and the beach scene takes us all there to where everything in live seemed to be so simple. This is a serious film for serous people. It is one of those monumental films which will stay with you and snippets of scenes and soundbites of songs will keep popping into your mind as you weave your way through your world filled with Trumps and Isis. It leaves you with the joy of pain, the sour truth of life.

The plot gives room for thinking and pondering, how would it look like, the end of the world...but I don't need this movie to imagine it. The main characters are miscast to say the least, and the film fails to be funny, and it fails at being romantic. It even fails at being dark. Dodge is the daft loser, and Penny is the goofy screw up. Dodge hates small talk and/or conversations, but eventually they have long, boring conversations about how their lives were before. I kept longing for the red wine they had, and just tuned out. I guess I didn't even expect Dodge and Penny to hook up. It's fine with an unusual couple, but come on! They had no chemistry, and I thought it was both unlikely and a bit gross.
