Dreadfully Boring
This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
View MoreI believe any father of a little Girl OR Boy, that was mercilessly abused and killed by the animal portrayed in the film. Although probably incapable of such cold calculated violence, as portrayed in the film ( or the medical skills to keep him alive ) would, at The least, just for a fleeting moment, want to replicate the " Good Doctor's " actions. I agree with others that have stated the lack of music, special effects and other " mood enhancements " leave the viewer, in particular fathers, to decide for themselves how the Dr, fathers, actions make them feel within themselves, rather than walk away able to say it was the directors choice of music or effects that made them feel the way they did, after watching the film. It's very confronting for those that find themselves cheering for the Dr that it was the circumstances that left them feeling that way rather than effects or music choosing the moral viewpoint they adapt at the end of the film. I for one felt that the Police officer who called in the fathers location towards the end betrayed any man finding that they are faced with the circumstances of the film. I want to believe that upon finding myself in those circumstances that I would act just like the Dr. Any doubts that I had about those feelings disappeared when I saw the pedophile murderer, crying and trying to bargain his way out of his fate. Some would say " 7 Days " was a Horror or Violent genre, again I must disagree and say I found it rather more a philosophical movie. Put yourself in the girls fathers shoes and walk a week with him. Then see how YOU feel at the end.
View MoreWhen police arrest a man for the rape and murder of Dr. Bruno Hamel's 8-year old daughter, the distraught father (a strong performance from Claude Legault) seeks revenge, kidnapping the suspect and subjecting him to a week of unimaginable suffering while the police desperately attempt to track them down.Revenge is sweet, as the saying goes, but 7 Days challenges this notion: after inflicting untold pain and suffering on his victim, Bruno doesn't feel any better—he is just as empty inside, his grief no less severe than before, his anger unabated. The film questions whether, despite our understandable wish to severely punish the human garbage who commit such evil crimes, revenge might not be the wisest route to take.Superb performances, tight direction from Daniel Grou, and some truly disturbing imagery make this film hard to ignore, but it is its highly debatable central theme—to torture or not to torture— that makes 7 Days a more powerful viewing experience than many of the 'torture' films that we've had to endure post-Saw.
View MoreFirst review I've made of a film but this was so incredibly boring I felt I had to say something...I spent the entire film WAITING for something to happen. Spoiler? It never does. Don't watch this expecting graphic violence; beyond a broken knee and one cut everything else is skipped out and implied. Prefer to watch for a story? None. How about character? Dull as paint! The main character, a doctor, is brilliantly clever but does...nothing. Really pointless with no clear message. Gave it a 2/10 generously due to the fact that the quality of the filming was actually decent. If you want to waste this much time for a cleverly artistic view of forests and a guy drinking beer, sleeping in his own vomit (or a candid shot of a naked guy being chained to the floor) your choice. Much better ways to waste your life away.
View MoreHow could it possible the parents would allow their underage young daughter to walk out alone to pass around her invitations. Both of the parents, especially the mom, got nothing to do in that specific morning, even the surgeon father was just off a major surgery from the hospital, but still.... Under any normal condition or premise, the girl's mom should accompany her to send out the invitations, that's a common duty of a mother with a elementary school daughter. Then again, we didn't see the daughter leave home with her school backpack or whatever, but then a boy in the same class and same school, returned her satchel to her parents, claiming she didn't attend the school. This two incidents were obviously an unexplainable overlook or careless draft of the screenplay that could and should be corrected by the director from the very beginning. But if without these two stupid arrangements, then the storyline of the scenario simply could be developed to the next level.By the way, the special effect of the torture scenes are grossly superb and stunning.
