Crappy film
Brilliant and touching
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
View MoreIt's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
View MoreIf you like horror movies, then I will be doing you a favor by telling you before you buy it that it is not a horror. The movie succeeds in raising your curiosity towards the slaughter in the farm. And this is the only good thing about the movie next to the little kid indeed as one of the viewers said. The scene when she pulls her friend's teeth is good, to be fair it was really good. The big brother who gets killed later in the movie, I don't know why you expect him to have a different role. Nothing really much to say about this movie but it's really not a good movie.
View MoreStewart Hopewell's SLAUGHTER is one of those "the dark side of rural America" kind of flicks where the sins of the father create a monster. This has one of those kind of heroines who makes so many questionable decisions you want to wring her neck yourself. It concerns a troubled young woman, Faith(Amy Shiels), escaping the abusive boyfriend, befriending a nymphomaniac, Lola(Lucy Holt), whose father is a creepy pig farmer who operates a slaughterhouse. Faith decides to stay with Lola, helping with chores in exchange for rent, soon uncovering disturbing truths regarding the family, concerning molestation and the mysterious absence of the mother. Lola brings home men she meets in the nearby city, and Faith discovers that these random guys come up missing, certain valuables of theirs remaining. Pursuing what happens to them unveils a startling reality regarding Lola with Faith's very life in danger. The part regarding Faith's lowlife boyfriend isn't left dangling, and this will rear it's ugly head late into the film. There's this idea of "starting a new life" which symbolizes just why Lola forges a friendship with Faith to begin with. The aspect of the "inability to escape the past" which follows you unless everything is "wiped clean" also becomes an important part of Lola's "quest" to rid herself of the trauma that torments her. The disturbing subject matter is handled in an non-exploitive way, the film instead focusing on Lola's violent outburst serving as the outlet for her rage. Not as violent as it could've been, director Hopewell uses tricks with sound effects(..such as the teeth pulling scenes)and moves his camera away as characters are blown away by shot gun blasts. Faith is portrayed as such a weak character you have an awfully difficult time giving her sympathy.
View MoreThe past 8 films to die for have been mostly hit and miss, with some being amazing and others just painful. This one is a definite hit. With its artistic opening and very slow build up it creates tension through confusion. Forcing the viewer to constantly say "Wait what?" Despite the plethora of gorgeous women through out the film none are exploited to entertain the male audience. Which is a nice change from most horror movies, though it still has the classic bath scene, which apparently every horror movie has to have. The location and sets are wonderful, adding to the atmosphere of a beautiful yet lonely farm. Art scattered though out the film is amazingly top notch, giving even more eye candy and depth to the overall film. The DVD is a for sure buy having a lovely making of which had us all laughing, and the Miss Horrorfeast webisodes were surprisingly entertaining, and even had me jump out of my seat. The actors were all visually appropriate, however the acting was not very convincing. Though a lack of acting abilities isn't always a bad thing in most horror movies, seeing as how that was the only entertaining factor in "My Bloody Valentine" which was also quite an eye sore. However one actor did stand out, the young boy. He stole every scene he was in.The climax is very satisfying taking all the build up and finally rewarding the viewer for following along. The movie overall was very entertaining and very suspenseful, not overly gory like you'd think from a title like Slaughter.
View MoreIf you want to see a psychological shocker, then Slaughter is the flick to see. I recently saw this movie during the after dark 2009 horror-fest and I really liked it. It doesn't have a whole lot of gore in it, but it is pretty violent. The reason that it gets its name, is because of the slaughter house on this farm, where unspeakable acts are being committed. It pretty much focuses on a young woman, who flees from a violent relationship and meets another lonely young woman, who lives on a farm and has a bad relationship with her father. when she arrives on the farm, she uncovers disturbing family secrets that are about to break out and destroy her. This movie is very suspenseful and diabolical. I cant wait for it's DVD release in March, it is definitely worth checking out!
