Really Surprised!
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
View MoreThe plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
Barnyard tells the story of a barn of animals,, the main character being a cow, living a secret life when the kindly old farmer isn't looking. When a gang of vicious coyotes kills an old cow, Otis (the cow's goofball son), is left largely in charge of the barnyard... but can he really protect it the way his father did? Barnyard wasn't necessarily a bad movie, but it's not the first animated film about farm animals to come out, nor was it the last. It certainly doesn't have the same quality as Chicken Run (2000) or Charlotte's Web (1973). Somehow is spawned a sequel, and a TV series that I've never honestly bothered to watch; I'm not exactly Barnyard's target audience. I think if I was, I would have enjoyed it a little more, it's a typical kid's movie, not much else to say.
View MoreI remember seeing the poster in the cinema, it looked like a slightly cheap style of CGI animation, from Nickelodeon, but I was going to see it regardless, from director Steve Oedekerk (Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls). Basically Otis the cow (Hitch's Kevin James) is irresponsible and loves to party with all the other barnyard animals, and his father Ben the cow (The Golden Compass's Sam Elliott) is hoping he will change his ways. Otis ignores his father's advice, and continues to party with his friends, Pip the mouse (Jeffrey Garcia), Pig the pig (Tino Insana), Freddy the ferret (Cam Clarke), and Peck the rooster (Rob Paulsen), and he also meets female cows, pregnant Daisy (Courteney Cox) and Bessy (Wanda Sykes). One night the biggest party is organised while the farmer is away, Otis does have a real heart to heart with his father, before a pack of coyotes led by Dag (David Koechner) come to raid the chicken coop. Ben did manage to scare off the coyotes, but he is very badly injured and dies in Otis's arms, he is elected as the new leader, and the only thing they can do when the farmer spots them being like humans is have Miles the mule (Danny Glover) kick him unconscious. He can't be bothered to be a proper leader, he leaves Freddy and Peck to keep an eye on everyone while he goes out with some other cows to have fun, teach some snotty kid a lesson, and have Mrs. Beady (Maria Bamford) complaining. That night he gets to know Daisy much better, but then he overhears the coyotes coming back, Dag says that if Otis gains some courage and tries to stand up for himself or the farm, he will kill everyone. Thinking he has no chance against them Otis threatened to leave, but he finds out there has been some backstabbing by Dag, and he sets off to defeat the pack and bring the poultry back safely. In the end, after Otis looks beaten but is helped by all his friends, Dag and the pack are scared away for good, and he watches in glee as Daisy has her baby calf she names Ben. Also starring Andie MacDowell as Etta the Hen, Futurama's John Di Maggio as Bud the Cow and Officer O'Hanlon and Earthquake as Root the Rooster. The voice casting is reasonable, the animation as I said wasn't very exciting, both male and female cows have udders which is inaccurate, but for all the sight gags and some one-liners it is an alright family animated comedy. Worth watching!
View MoreFirst of all, I am truly amazed at the amount of negative reviews for this feature!! There are many bad movies in the world but this just isn't one of them! It may not be up there with the likes of Pixar (Which a lot of people seem to be comparing this to) but then again....What is? Pixar have raised the bar incredibly high! Barnyard is not trying to be a Pixar feature, it reminds me more of some of the silly(Tongue in cheek)cartoons that you might expect to see on Nickleodeon (Which is not really a surprise considering they made it) for example: i'm sure if you have read any of the other reviews for Barnyard on "IMDB" you will have noticed people mentioning how disgusted they were over the fact: ...Wait for it.........The Male voiced cows...HAVE UDDERS!! (Oh my daze the horror how dare a cartoon not have anatomically correct livestock!!) I just could not believe what a big deal everyone is making of it.....seriously......what?....its just a bit of Daft Fun(It got a laugh from me cos they actually look quite comical)... , Don't get me wrong though its not all daftness there are some more serious elements to it (Characters dies from a coyote attack and has funeral..........also.....cows get loaded on milk(Drunk on milk??but thats not scientifically accurate how dare they)go drunk driving to a human kids house to play a prank on him)....but this leads me to my other point......I noticed a lot of people complaining that they regretted taking their young child to see this film because of the above issues....now i cant speak for the US but in the UK Barnyard has got a PG Rating, which to me reflects that there are bits in the film that may not be suitable for young children, So.....Y'know....fair enough!I have to say "Barnyard", is a good movie, its a bit of daft fun thats not aimed at young children and is not trying to be the "Perfect for all the family - Pixar movie" The more you think that - the more you will enjoy "Barnyard".
View MoreI first saw this film on an impulse, and I was most impressed by it! I thought it combined humour and sadness well and some of the childish humour was hysterical! It had enough happening in it to keep me watching without being too exciting and action-packed. Also the fact that the male cows had udders didn't bother me in the slightest, and i thought the rest of the graphics were great too! I took it on tour with me when I went with the local rugby club, and the whole rugby team loved it and everyone (especially the 48 year old coach!) wanted to watch it again on the way home! Now that IS pretty impressive for a children's film.
