good back-story, and good acting

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

The story had to be remade. Nice questioning about life and reality. Is there another life form and what would we do with it? Good little film. The end is similar to the russian film of the same name and origin, but more virtual. Are we now in heaven in heaven?

This movie intrigued me for some time. But upon realizing what the movie is about, I was disappointed in the message. First I see the beings do not breathe. The resurrections are referred to with disgust. The other team is not correct about flesh and bone inheriting the kingdom. Yes blood is sacred but its not dirty. We will rule on the earth for the 1000 years but everything will be wonderful. Hard for some who lack appreciation for the new opportunity, but hey, free will comes at a cost.

I have to start out by saying I have never read the 1961 novel nor have I seen the 1972 film. I am only commenting on the 2002 film. I found it an astonishing piece of cinema. I like movies so I have tried hard to see as many as possible so it is only a small number that have stuck with me and made a serious impression. Mostly what drew me to this movie so much was how the director and actors pulled me into the story and made it real for me.I'm sure the book has been fully dissected but I think from comments I have seen that some people don't really understand what is going on. I don't want to give any spoilers so I will only say that the mind is a very powerful thing and we cannot doubt what it can create. We all have inner voices that we struggle with and mostly they try to help us accomplish our goals.I would recommend watching this movie when you have time to feel introspective.

There are some interesting themes in the film - and in many ways, this is an outer space version of Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind with a few Vanilla Sky time-line distortions mixed in for good measure. Each of these three films was exploring similar ideas at around the same time.Who hasn't butchered a fantastic relationship and wished there was a way to go back and make better decisions?Solaris resonated with me in that I found it to be about second chances with a love that went from perfect to tragic, and the idea that what may have accelerated the deterioration may have as much to do with people's perceptions of one another as much as the situation itself. As for the suggestions that there are too many unexplained occurrences throughout the movie, such is life.Peace Richard
