Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

Some sorry multi cultural military unit is send to the Middle East to some underground research facility to rescue some researcher after earthquakes were identified in the area. Leading the operation is some CIA girl, who happens to be the daughter of the rescuee.Once they get there they run into a priest covered in boils. Further into the facility they find corpses in various states of destruction. Also some other guy is there who warns them and when shot re-awakens. Some of these semi-living creatures vomit green stuff onto people's faces which causes them to end up with boils as well. Behind a door they find another priest. This one healthy though. And is able to give some strange explanations. Meanwhile, members of the unit start having visions which lead them to do crazy stuff. The leader of the unit also keeps remembering throughout the movie a significant event during one of their other missions in battle.Eventually they are led to a room behind another door where the source of all this is. The explanation is actually interesting and surprising. They also end up finding the dad of CIA girl, but by now he's got other plans than just leave with the unit.Devil's Tomb has a strong cast in Gooding, London, Perlman, Moseley and especially the drop dead gorgeous Valerie Cruz. The overall idea behind what is going on is actually pretty original too. It just should have been told better. Sure the movie is pretty slow and the business with people having visions and acting out on them needs also to be handled better. It is a watchable movie if you don't have too high expectations.

An elite military is hired to rescue an important scientist by the name of Wesley Cardell (Ron Perlman) from a top secret Middle Eastern archaeological site. Captain Mack (Oscar-Winner:Cuba Gooding Jr.) and his team (Taryn Manning, Zack Ward, Frankie G, Jason London, Brandon Fobbs and Stephanie Jacobsen) along with an CIA agent named Elissa Cardell (Valerie Cruz) are descending deep below civilization. Which Elissa is hoping to rescue her father Wesley. Soon enough, the team faces unspeakable evil. Which evil spirits focus on their fears and the team starts having hallucinations. While Mack has flashbacks of his former best friend Blakely (Ray Winstone) and the ancient evil is trying to kill them, one at a time.Directed by Jason Connery (51, Pandemic) made an enjoyable, trashy, cheesy and in this very made "B" movie. Which the director is the son of a very big film star, which is Oscar-Winner:Sean Connery. The premise of the feature isn't very original, since the picture will certainly reminds you of "John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness" and "Event Horizon". The movie has an surprisingly good cast including Henry Rollins and Bill Moseley in a memorable bit part as a possessed scientist.DVD has an good anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer and an fine Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The DVD has an fairly enjoyable commentary track by the director and actor:Gooding Jr., an behind the scenes featurette, alternate scenes and outtakes. "The Devil's Tomb" is best enjoyed, if you don't take this movie seriously. The movie is fun, if you watch it with an open mind. Perphas the feature could have been more convincing, if the picture had an bigger budget or an better script. Anyway, "The Devil's Tomb" is "B" movie trash all the way. (*** ½/*****).

The Devil's Tomb feels like one of those cheap DTV horror films, only with a big name cast. It's been done many times before in DTV films, maybe not as bad, but it's still not very good. It feels very cheap looking, with Cuba looking silly with a mad scowl on his face throughout the movie, he doesn't look too pleased to be there. The effects themselves are good for its budget, but it's too overly gory with the way it's done, with a ridiculous amount of blood coming from the evil characters, it felt too over the top. This isn't as awful as Way Of War, but Cuba is much too good to be starring in the type of junk that Seagal is putting out now-a days. The action is very sparse, with a lot of junky dialog to sit through and characters I didn't give a damn about. I really don't know what happened to Cuba's career, but I hope he revives it soon, because watching such a talented actor like him flounder in this type of garbage is just sad.Performances. Cuba Gooding Jr. isn't very good here. He walks around with an annoyed scowl throughout the movie, and sleepwalks through the whole thing. Taryn Manning is OK as The Doc, but her character is highly unlikable. Jason London is OK, but doesn't have a whole lot to do. Henry Rollins isn't much better. Ron Perlman must have needed a pay-check, same goes to Ray Winstone.Bottom line. Sad days for Cuba Gooding, but being the fan I am I'll continue to view his work, I just hope he lives up to his potential once again. Movie is not recommended3/10
