disgusting, overrated, pointless
This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
View MoreExcellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
View MoreWhile it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
View MoreI'm giving this a higher rating to offset the trolls. I agree with reviewer 'Mackenzie Click' that this movie was boosted by experienced actors, who elevate the writing and make it more enjoyable. There are many accomplished character actors throughout this movie, their talents make this more than just a 'Movie-of-the-Week'. It is a well-rounded crime drama, that is enjoyable to watch. It's the story of a fact checker who uncovers a serial killer that the LAPD has been hiding from the public. As it happens, this serial killer has run unchecked longer than any other in California history. It's a great story of how determination and grit can take on the establishment. It's also the story of how one fearless, determined woman cannot be stopped. If your like crime mysteries, or stories about strong women, then I definitely recommend this movie. DON'T LISTEN TO THE TROLLS, IT'S WORTH A WATCH!
View MoreI'm a sucker for true crime movies. The movie was helped by having some well-known people in it and likely I wouldn't have rated it quite as high if I didn't like those people and their acting in the movie. While this movie came out in 2014 there is a new resolution added to the movie when it aired a few days ago in May 2016. If you can catch it again on LMN it's worth it just to see that or if you can't google it then. I was very surprised that the resolution actually happened only 5 days prior to this movie being aired again so they actually kept up on the story or they decided to re-air it because the new resolution was expected to happen fairly soon. Anyways the movie does show how a community can work together when they feel their voices are finally being heard especially with fresh eyes looking into the issue. All and all a good movie at least compared to many that I watch on LMN (except I keep coming back for more lol).
View MoreIt's not that bad! It's a lifetime movie after all, you can't really expect a blockbuster theater quality movie. I think the story is pretty interesting. Basically a journalist breaks the case because the police aren't doing their job. I don't think the acting is that terrible either. It keeps your attention, and unless the end is truly awful(I have about 15 minutes left)I think it deserves more than the 2 stars the previous reviewer gave it. I even learned something-I had never heard of "familial DNA" before I saw this movie. Anyway I think it's not a total waste of 2 hours to watch this movie, especially if you are a fan of the true crime genre.
View MoreJust dismal.Bad acting.Bad directing.Bad script.Simply horrible. The Plot. The Grim Sleeper follows LA Weekly reporter Christine Pelisek (Walker) as she doggedly investigates the unsolved murders of dozens of women in Los Angeles and soon realizes one person is responsible for many of these deaths that began over 20 years earlier. After a string of murders in the 1980s, the violence seemed to end; but almost 14 years later, another murder spree begins, leading Pelisek to dub the killer "The Grim Sleeper." The reporter-turned-amateur detective notices similarities between the cases and sets out to break the story of her career, researching evidence and interviewing witnesses for clues to the killer's identity. While police and lead detectives (Hudson, O'Neill) kept the community in the dark about a potential serial killer on the loose, Pelisek contacts the victims' families to offer them the truth about what may have happened to their daughters, sisters, wives and mothers.
