It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

I wanted to watch this movie because I am a big fan of Grace Van Patten. This young actress has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the movie goes further in the Hollywood style and must undress every young actress at the beginning of their career. This is not art, this is call perverted view. Do you really need to show naked people in order to express your ideas? This is the way you teach the young generation how to look at life and how to express? It is a disgrace. I am terribly disappointed that Grace Van Patten accepted to play this role. Probably she had no other choice as many other actresses, but it is disappointing. Regarding the story, I am not convinced by their performance and is a big disappointment especially Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thomson who made such great couple in "Last chance Harvey". I was expecting much more from such first class actors. The other two (Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller) are not between my favourites and they did not excel in their roles. I am still waiting for a good movie...

No one is chronicling New York elites both real & perceived than Noah Baumbach. In his new film, we have the Meyerowitz' three half siblings under the cruel yet absent parentage of a once great artist (at least he thought he was great) as they now are becoming parents & we wait w/baited breath if the same mistakes will be made. That's the rub I suppose since the family members are in constant conversation yet nothing is actually is being communicated is a fascinating, yet frustrating aspect of this clan. Probably Baumbach's nearest contemporary is Wes Anderson who also tells tales of fractured geniuses trying to cope in a world that doesn't understand them or wants to. If you go along for the ride, which truth be told, isn't for everybody, you'll laugh hardheartedly while shaking your head at the dunderheadedness on display.

Without a doubt the most tedious, pretentious, mind-numbingly boring movie I've ever seen. I can't stress this enough, everything about it is awful. It almost seems like the writer went out of his way to bore the viewers to death. There are no interesting characters, from the neglectful and useless artist played by Dustin Hoffman, to the bizarre and cringey pornographic filmmaker played by that girl that looks like another popular actress. Oh and that spinster was a stupid character too. Worst movie I have ever seen.

I only gave this movie a 2 instead of a 1 because Dustin Hoffman is still such a great actor at the age of 80. He is in top form.Sandler and Still are good too but the story is disjointed and often times not believable, most of all about 20 minutes in when the director gets one of the young actresses naked and gets her to curse repeatedly in a sexual way.Not sure if Noah Baumbach did so for his own amusement, enjoyment or if this was a desperate attempt at sensational shock value but it made me want to throw up.What a cheap way to ruin a movie.
