I liked the plot and it is nice to laugh with the jokes. Rudd and Mann do their parts well and they have a good cast around them. This is the kind of film people should watch and make fun of their own experiences. This is a nice one. However, let's not forget it is a comedy ... please, it is a comedy, ok? So, rule number one: it can not be so long. Long comedies make them, except for a few cases, boring! Films are funny when they have jokes and are practical. Period! So, if you are going to watch, be a little patient.

In this film Pete (Paul Rudd) and Debbie (Leslie Mann)turn 40 and re-examine their lives. Debbie decides everyone must make changes while Pete hides the fact they are broke. It seems Pete invested his future in the resurgence of Graham Parker. They are clearly a mixed couple as Pete likes classic rock while Debbie prefers Lady Gaga. They also have father issues, one is a stranger (John Lithgow) while the other needs a handout (Albert Brooks). Apatow also brings back his daughters Maude and Iris from "Knocked Up" to be Sadie and Charlotte again. I must say his daughters did a great job as a moody foul mouthed 11 year old and an 8 year old wise beyond her years who says to her sister, "You're no fun since your body got weird."The humor is never really a side splitter such as when they are talking to each other as their counselor says they should talk to each other:Paul: "When I apologize, that means you'll let it go and won't throw it back at me in the future?" Debbie: "I don't do that and I will continue not to do that."If you loved Apatow's other work, this one is in line with them: crudely humorous and pretentious masquerading as a meaningful statement on modern relationships.Parental Guide: F-bomb, sex, nudity (Leslie Mann). Megan Fox bra/panties and bikini. Maybe as a rental. In case you are watching "Lost" for the first time, this film includes the spoiler ending.

The movie is called this is 40, the people who didn't like this movie are above 30 or beneath 30 ?someone said about making the film 1 hour shorter - as it could be a little shorter but not a hour shorter maybe 20-30 minutes i wonder what is his age.i'm 35 years old and i really enjoyed the movie but the reason that i enjoyed is because i can relate to a lot of things in the movie.i'm not sure that people beneath 30 can relate too much to things in the movie. and the movie like its name is called "this is 40" and it is exactly what it is.the finance difficulties people are standing with , the "automate" mode that married couples get in.the small lies like paul rudd in the bathroom to take a break from lifethe health examinations that you start like with the breast test or blood testthe difficulty of the whole family as her father with his issues his father with his issues.i think that if you take married people with kids above 30 they will review the movie higher because of all the small stuff - the movie title and movie itself fits about the age 40 of average's joe married couples .

Although this was advertised as an adult comedy it just wasn't adult nor was there any discernible comedy. From what I saw it was just a diatribe of swearing and crudity which I found totally unfunny. Turned it off after the first half hour but out of curiosity did peruse the reviews and am glad I didn't waste any more time on it.
