Sadly Over-hyped
Just so...so bad
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
View MoreOne of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.
View MoreLike the show but, who has the money to buy a $250,000 house and then put $350,000 renovation to it? I watch many shows where the house is not inspected by professionals and then they start working and then there is a $10,000 sewage issue. I would think that would be on them. Or Chip at least, NEVER buy a property unless it's throughly inspected. Rule to live by.
View MoreI missed the first season of the show and picked it up during the second season. I was enthralled. I couldn't wait for the third season. The third season rolled around and I started to notice that Joanna's designs were pretty much the same.1. Open concepts were a must, which I don't like because if you want to say something that you don't want everyone to hear, you have to find a room in the house to go do it.2. I don't like the kitchen open to the living/family room. I don't want everyone to see my dirty dishes in the sink. The same bland color palette. I love color! There was the one show that Joanna did do color for the young single foster mom. I liked what Joanna did because it was a little out of her comfort zone. It had some great color elements and some funky furniture. Joanna, do some more of those! Please! 3. I'm finding Chip getting more on my nerves because he likes being such a goofball. I will say this though. This duo in a way reminds me of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. She was the daffy comedienne and he was her straight man (although, if you really watch Desi, he was funny in his own right). All four were/are savvy business people. Lucy and Desi built a studio empire out of their "I Love Lucy" antics and Chip and Joanna Gaines are building a local empire in their hometown. This is good because it is creating jobs in the local market there. Watching the Gaines', I would like to see the script bring Chip's humor down and bring Joanna's up.4. I know that all reality TV is scripted in some way, shape or form. This one is no different than say, "Survivor". Whether it's an actual script or the director says this is how I want you to play the scene and they ad lib. I feel that all of the behind the scenes stuff is already done and what the audience gets is however the show is "scripted". Whatever way Fixer Upper does it, bring in some fresh elements and not the same thing every week. Show more collaboration with the clients, stop the "emergency" calls to the client. Most buyers hire an home inspection company to inspect the property before the final down payment is made to ensure that any potential problems are uncovered. These owners are paying them a bucket load of money and it's their house and they should have some input. Plus, why does every single cent need to be spent? I would think that there are some ways to save money. It would be nice to have a little money left in the bank. But, maybe that's all part of the script.I don't mind seeing their personal life and their kids, whom I think are cute and total replicas of Joanna. I would like to know who takes care of the farm work while they are away renovating houses. They don't do all that work on their own like the intro to the show every week. They must have staff. I heard her mention a babysitter for the kids once. One last thing that I want to mention after this long review is, where are the old half hour HGTV shows? I loved "Design on a Dime", "Get Color", "Designed to Sell", "Divine Design" (although Candace Olson was quite full of herself), "Design for the Sexes". There was one that I can't remember the name, but they would design a room to mimic a room in a design magazine. I started watching HGTV in the late 1990's/early 2000's and these shows were on then and I loved watching them. The only half hour show still on from that time is "House Hunters". There is "Tiny House Hunters", but again, the designs in the homes are pretty much the same. There's only so much that you can do with 200 square feet. There is "Flip or Flop", but I don't like the couple at all. I appears that they are divorcing. Anyway, HGTV has no variety any longer. It's just back to back one hour episodes of the same series each day of the week. Ah, variety, I miss you. Thanks for reading this if you got through it.Anyway, this is their fourth season and may be the last one that I watch.
View MoreChip and Joanna the Perfect Pair Do you have the guts to take on a fixer upper? You know the show we all love it Chip and Joanna are the perfect pair. Joanna has a background in real estate and interior design. Chip has a background in construction. Together they have created a show that takes the worst house in the best neighborhood and turns it into their client's dream home. It is called Fixer Upper. From there farm house to the houses that they build it is truly a masterpiece, that in my opinion can be called the best TV show ever. I love the exterior to the interior adventures that they take you on from the very beginning of the show from picking the house to the finished product it truly a very interesting adventure. Let's talk about the beginning of the show. It always starts out with Chip Joanna and their family at their farm house. It is fun to see them in a real life setting, although it does seem a little sugar coated. I wish that it could be a little more realistic in showing their real day to day lives. It is nice to see that they have an order to the show but on the other hand though It can sometimes put you to sleep because you know what is going to happen next. In the very beginning when the customer is introduced I wish that they could make it a little more interesting by saying just a little bit more about themselves, so that you can connect with them better. I also wish that Chip and Joanna could show you how they picked the 3 houses to show to their customer so that you could feel that you were a part of that process as well. When Chip and Joanna meet the customers they are always so nice and friendly to everyone it makes you feel like you are their friend. It is so cool how they invite the customer into their own home it makes everything seem more real. What's Today! Demo Day! I absolutely love demo day it is one of my favorite parts of the show. It is so fun to see Chip and his gang completely gut the entire house. One of my other favorite parts of the show is when Joanna gets to pick out the floor the cabinets and the absolute best part the furniture. I absolutely love Joanna she is so creative and fun she is definitely the cherry on top of the entire show. Now we get to my absolute favorite part of the entire show. When they reveal to their customer their dream home that they have waited so long for. I love how they have a big canvas in front of the house reminding you as an audience member and the customer what it looked like before they started remodeling. Once everyone is ready they ask the customer "Are you ready to see your fixer upper?" Then Chip and Joanna pull back the canvas to reveal the amazing new house that awaits their customer. The houses no matter what shape or size they come in they always turn them into a masterpieces. It is so amazing to see the house go through such a dramatic transformation from when the customer buys it to when they have turned it into a dream home. Chip and Joanna are such a good team they are both so creative when it comes to remodeling and they have such a passion for doing it. Because of them so many people are able to have their dream home because of this show. This is an amazing show and I love every second of it. It is everything that you need in a good TV show it's funny interesting and of course amazing and it is all because Chip and Joanna are the perfect pair.
View MoreI have watched every episode and love the interplay between the Gaines' family members. Joanna is the interior designer and Chip the faithful worker-bee husband. Their homes designs are unique and in good taste. It amazes me how the housing disasters they encounter are done to budget without cutting corners.Homes that more than likely would be tear downs in other areas of the country are given a new lease on life with the unmistakable distinctive mark of the Magnolia Company (Chip & Joanna). This is a fun family show that can be enjoyed by all with an upbeat outlook on life, home and people.
