It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

Filmed in the beautiful New Zealand, like the similar show "Zena, Warrior Princess". I used to watch it on "Star" channel. The plot follows the adventures of Hercules (played by Kevin Sorbo), the demigod birthed by a god "Zeus" - the king of the gods and a mortal woman Alcmene. Yeah, Zeus got around a lot.. Hercules wanders the earth (Greece mostly) along with his friend Iolaus (played by Michael Hurst). Just to note that Iolaus was invented for the purposes of the TV show, greek mythology doesn't mention him. They both portray honorable individuals, and the only true justice of the ancient world of greece. The terrific duo kill the bad guys, save the day and some times even get the girls. But this series is PG, so don't expect to see much blood (if ever), or erotic scenes. Hercules is often tempted and trapped by monsters sent from Hera, the Queen of the gods and Zeus's wife. She's both jealous and furious of her husband who is impregnating beautiful mortal women around the world and she wants to kill his half-god children. But Hercules is very powerful and still endures. Hercules will encounter various interesting individuals in his journey, even other gods, like Ares - the god of war (played by Kevin Smith). This tv series was my guilty pleasure as a kid, i loved it. Yes, it will mostly appeal to children or for entire family viewings. It is entertaining, enjoyable and quite funny. Acting from the main characters is decent, but never take this series too seriously (it itself doesn't). Over the 111 episodes, Hercules meets many wonderful creatures, kings, monsters, giants, you name it. Choreography of the fights is awful, but it's not intended to be very realistic, it's childish action, tolerable nonetheless. Eventually Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) will probably grow on you and you will like the character and the series. Finally i find the score and the intro very well made. The heroic music is fitting. Rating: 5/10 - Mediocre - Good to pass family time.

I remember staying up late on the weekends and watching everyone of these movies. There were other movies that they showed at the same time slot Like The New bandit movies, but these were so much better.I was so sad when FOX took Hercules off the air and put their stupid local news on in it's time slot. I was an extra for both Hercules and Zena. They were both being filmed in the same area and were sharing base commodities(?) such as the rest area and food tent. It was in NZ up in Waitakere (Lat 36°53'47.23"S Long 174°30'24.19"E) in this general area. A couple of things that I noticed was that Kevin really looked after the workers on site. He took any new actor that came down from the US and basically told them that there were to be no theatrics/hollywoods towards the staff or else they would be on the next plane back. Also for those that didn't know, Kevin is about 6'3" and in the episode "The End Of The Beginning" there is an actress playing the part of Serena called Kara Zediker who looks only 5'0". They had a scene were the two are walking together and they had to dig a trench and build a rise so they were a more 'managable' size ratio. Looked hilarious.

when the tele movies aired in 1994 i was nine and in in early 2000 when it ended i couldn't believe it six years of my life just ended. i love Hercules more than i loved Xena, Xena was getting too dark and Gothic and the lesbian subtext was a no no for me for i am a Christian. but i love Hercules , Hercules was an action, adventure, comedy , drama, sometimes romantic television show. the show was for everyone whether you were 6 years, 16 , 30 or 60 . Bruce Campbell was great , Alexandra tydings,and all the other guest stars were wonderful Kevin sorbo and Micheal Hurst did a great job. too bad the show ended . i hope see those actors in other great things. i think Hercules was the moral compass and super hero even needed that time. i am just shocked that more people liked Xena than Hercules. Xena was awful especially in the later 4th season, fifth and sixth. i am 21 and i am still watching Hercules reruns and probably will til the day i die. i have never gotten tired of the show every episode is a breath of fresh air, love the myths,, the scenery, the action, the comedy, the strong and independent women, the romance especially between Herc and Serena, the good doing and i love to hate the villains especially ares.
