This is How Movies Should Be Made
Crappy film
If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

View MoreThis is a very special effects driven series. You might call it Jurassic Park light. The special effects are excellent. They are not just pasted onto the background. They interact strongly with the live action. The spiders were not quite up to snuff, though. The effect that puzzled me most was Rex, a baby winged dinosaur that liked to nestle next to the breast of a pretty young woman. It had all the cuteness and intelligence of a Disney creation, yet it seemed completely real. I really wanted to have one as a pet myself. The science is pretty sloppy: 1. Micro-brained dinosaurs and insects seem to know how to operate a time wormhole.2. Insects, far larger than ever lived on earth swarm, even though the oxygen today is far too low to support them and they would collapse under their own gravity.3. Predator dinosaurs chasing prey, stop to give dominance displays of roaring. This is not how predators act.4. Predator dinosaurs seem to be blind. You can escape them just by lying on the ground. There was a scene with a young woman just in her underwear. In a series without any romantic content, it seemed overly exploitive and out of place. It is somewhat corny and clichéd, but is a guilty pleasure. It is entertaining.
View MoreThis show took me by surprise, and that's hard to do. As clever as the current crop of TV writers may THINK they are, they are essentially riffing on someone else's stories. (Like the man once said, there are only 4 basic plots anyway). And then along comes this. It was fabulously clever. Temporal anomalies. Beasties popping through. All kinds of strange dynamics among the group, strange motives, conspiracies, love triangles. When Juliet Aubrey turned out to be bad, that was good. When Hannah Spearritt ignored the protocols and "adopted" one of the creatures, that was ever better (and later episodes put the little guy's life in jeopardy more than once). The high rating is for the concept, the execution, and holding interest over several seasons. On DVD or streaming, this should be more fun than a barrel of hammers. And here is a tip -- I peeked at the IMDb page for the sequel, which was little more than an attempt to resurrect a dead show in North America using complete unknowns (something they tried to do, believe it or not, with THE AVENGERS decades ago). The few episodes I saw were wretched. Avoid it.
View MoreWarning! Spoilers Ahead! "Primeval" ranks up there with "Fringe" as one of the best time travel/alternate universe genre SF TV series ever made. Far, far better than paint by the numbers shows such as "Quantum Leap." I still can't believe however that the creators of the show killed off every one of their leading characters.Killing off the adorable Claudia Brown by changing the time line was bad enough. Admittedly they reincarnated her, sort of, as Jenny Lewis. But then they wrote her out of the show too by having her resign.Killing off the unflappable, too cool for school Stephen Hart and even the living, beating heart of the show Nick Cutter was just too much. That is no way to keep a franchise going.I suppose the creators of the show should be given credit for their ruthlessness. The shockingly unexpected deaths of these beloved main characters leave holes in our hearts. They evoke the inner emptiness that accompanies the loss of a loved one.But unless the actors wanted out for career reasons, killing their characters off was definitely a bad move.
View MoreFirst of all let me state for the record that I really like this show, the characters are cool, the CGI creatures are great, and there is the occasional one-liner good enough to be remembered. However I would be remiss if I didn't point out two things, and these are semi spoilers. The first is that if you're a new fan just joining the show if and hopefully when it starts its next season, you'll want to be prepared that the focus of the show isn't as much on the creatures as it used to be. In some episodes they pay as little attention to the massive plot point that is the creatures as they can possibly get away with. Make no mistake, what they fill that time in with is still better than what most shows have to offer these days, but it's still worth mentioning. The second point is that only three of the the show's original cast are still around (two others made a brief appearance last season but haven't been seen since). While it is an interesting point to constantly have shifting characters and it makes for some really good story arcs for the series, one or two of the characters just kind of disappeared without any explanation. In simpler terms, don't get to attached to any of the characters as you can't be sure who will disappear next. These two points are relatively minor issues in the grand scheme of things though. This is still a great show in the top caliber of shows on the air today. Whether or not they will still be able to keep good plots going too much longer remains to be seen, but for the time being it is well worth your time to view it and past seasons and I can't wait for the next season.
