An action-packed slog
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
View MoreYes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
View MoreGreat movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
View MoreThis show needs a reboot ASAP I miss this show so much. Come on amazon, netflix and hulu?!?!?!?!
View MoreI enjoyed this show a lot.. But the way episode 13 ended though it seems like they were planning to make another season.. They did'nt really tell us exactly what happened and left us guessing.I am guessing that some of the actors weren't keen to do another season. Its a shame really.I think the only actor I have seen in another show worth mentioning and might have been better off leaving the show was was Mark Margolis (Sal) who starred in breaking bad..Would love it if they got some of the cast together and started up on this series again.. Even though that's unlikely.
View MoreOne day I was surfing the internet, and came across this show. It looked interesting, so I thought I would give it a shot - and BOY OH BOY was I in for a surprise: What followed was, in my opinion the best viewing experience I've ever had from a TV-showIt had everything a good show should contain:A very good plot line - Great locations - Great characters I sat in awe watching the show, and thought to myself "WOW, this is really great!"But then the unfortunate happened = I found out the show was canceled after only 1 season! I looked around, and to my surprise I found out, that a LOT of other people felt the same way I did about this show:There are a lot of shows filling the air, and some get taken of because of low ratings and such, and some of them deserve it - but NOT this oneAll I can hope for, is that NBC will reconsider their decision and bring back the show - because to me, it looks like it has become somewhat of a cult classic!!
View MoreI have long been a fan of the Godfather films, largely because of their study of the character of Michael. I am fascinated every time I watch him turn from innocent into power-corrupted Don. He goes through the metamorphosis grudgingly and unwillingly, always hoping to save what is dearest to him -- which he ultimately loses because of who (and what) he has become. That said, I've always felt that too little time is spent examining Michael's motivations and inner conflict as he changes. It's like the character study and the plot are at war with each other, and the plot gets the upper hand.I have never thought that Michael's metamorphosis can be explained simply by saying, "The Sicilians are a passionate and vengeful people, they've always been that way..." -- even though that is exactly what the films try to get away with doing. It has always bothered me.Enter The Black Donnellys. The plot is wonderful, well-paced and thought-provoking. But it is coupled with an incredible character study as we watch Tommy's metamorphosis with much greater granularity than we could Michael Corleone's; I would even go so far as to say that all of the other TBD characters -- as great as they are -- are almost like supporting props in Tommy's televised solipsism.Tommy is played brilliantly by Jonathan Tucker -- who seems very familiar to me although I can't remember where I've seen him before. His anguish is tangible as he attempts, again and again, to make the correct choice between two "wrongs". I can see him trying to decide which path will ultimately turn out to be less harmful to his family and friends, even though they are always the cause of these terrible decisions. As mentioned, the supporting characters and cast are excellent. I especially enjoy watching Kirk Acevedo as Nicky Cottero... he's a great schemer and provides sharp contrast for Tommy Donnelly. Nicky knows exactly what he wants and will do whatever it takes to get it.So why did NBC precipitously drop the show and make it Internet-only? I won't pretend to have even the slightest clue. I don't know what kind of ratings TBD got on TV but, if it was killed by bad ratings, there are lots of things that could have played into that. I think Monday evening was a terrible timeslot, didn't even give the show a chance to get its legs underneath it.Also, the advance marketing was pretty shoddy: the fact that I watched the pilot on television was a fluke, rather than the result of an advertising campaign. Of course, I have no idea how I would get across even a fraction of this show's greatness in 30-second blurbs... but that's why the Madison Avenue types get the big bucks. The graveyard of worthy-yet-canceled network television shows covers a lot of acreage. I've seen many cancellations that made just as little sense as this one. I still hold onto a tiny ray of hope, however, that NBC will figure out that they're getting rid of a winner here... and reverse their decision. Who knows? It could happen....
