This is How Movies Should Be Made
Just perfect...
Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.
View MoreVery good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
View MoreYou can buy the first two movies (In the Beginning, The Gathering) separately, but in order to get all five B5 movies (the first two plus Thirdspace, The River of Souls, and A Call to Arms), you have to buy them in a box set. The first two movies are out of orderthey should be In the Beginning and then The Gathering. These movies are GREAT for background information. They really should be watched before watching the series. Thirdspace is a detached from the rest of the movies and series. It comes after the end of the Shadow War (season 4, episode 6), but then there is no mention of it again. If you never saw this movie, you wouldn't miss any continuity. The only thing it clears up is why Lyta Alexander and Zack Allen never got together. The River of Souls occurs in apx. Year 2263 and is less detached because B5 has encountered Soul Hunters before. This just gives more insight to them. It is like an extra episode in Season 5.A Call to Arms (Year 2267) is a prequel to the Crusade series. If you aren't planning to watch the Crusade series, there is no reason to watch this movie. Season 5 should go like this: 1. Season 5 Episode 21 "Objects at Rest" (Year 2262) 2. The River of Souls movie (Year 2263) 3. A Call to Arms and the Crusade Series (Year 2267)optional. I suggest these be watched separately from B5 series as they really don't enhance or expand on the B5 series. 4. The Lost TalesVoices in the Dark movie (Year 2271) 5. Season 5 Episode 22 "Sleeping in Light." (Year 2280)6. The Legend of The Rangers: To Live and Die in Starlight (after the Year 2280)optional. Does not add nor detract from the series.
View MoreI was very excited to finally watch Thirdspace, but it was something of a letdown. There was plenty of action, great graphics, a few fun, cheesy moments but it was missing that tell-tale OMG moment. The revelation about the Vorlans being responsible for the artifact was a good explanation, but it wasn't what we've come to except from Babylon 5.It was still a good movie, don't get me wrong. The graphics were amazing, and it was nice to go back to the good old days of Season 4. Can't tell you ow excited I was that Claudia Christan was in it. However, there was a slight goof with the summary (I got this from Netflix) it said Peter Jurasik (Londo Mollari) was in it, but Vir specifically points out that he wasn't on B5 at the time.It was nice to see some characters who didn't get as much screen time as the others. Vir had some great scenes, as did Lyta Alexander. All in all, I would recommend this movie to any B5 fan out there. :)
View MoreI'm a long time fan of Babylon 5 but watching this for the second time I am struck by how much clumsy exposition there is in this movie. So much back story is filled in by characters telling each other things that are (within the Babylon 5 universe) such common knowledge that it is absurd for people to talk about them (Dr Trent's conversation with her companion Bill Morishi about the history of the Jumpgate falls into this category) or characters tell each other things they already know (or think they know) just so we the audience can be told as well. Sorry I don't buy it - at one point one of the characters actually says "...as you very well know". This is soap opera writing. Does the job but it's hardly elegant.I don't know the schedule JMS was working to on this one but it looks like it was written in a hurry. The writing is no way up to the usual standard for this show. The humour isn't there either. Having said that the SFX are good...
View MoreI have been a big fan of the B5 series for some time now but have never had the opportunity to see one of the movies until Thirdspace was aired on the Sci-Fi channel. I am glad that Thirdspace was the first B5 movie I saw. Although I am a big fan of B5 I have to admit that some of the acting can, at times, get a little weak. Thirdspace is a pretty good example of how bad the acting can get. It wasn't so bad that it ruined the movie but I did role my eyes a few times when the acting was obviously bad.The writing and characters for B5 have always been very strong and although most of the B5 TV characters are not in Thirdspace, the plot is strong enough that not all of the characters are needed or missed. For the most part the B5 crew, Delenn and I think Lennier were the only characters from the show that were also in the movie. G'Kar, Londo and Vir would have been a nice addition to Thirdspace but the characters were un-needed for the movie and their absence where for the most part unnoticed. They do a good job in building the suspense up in Thirdspace. They only let you know enough to keep the interest going. Although some of the side plots tend to get a little long (very long) and unnecessary, the interest is very strong has much to do with the main plot. The device discovered is also very intriguing. This also helps build the plot, suspense and interest in the movie, even if it is only for a shot time. SPOILER ALERT!!! When Lyta informs the rest of what the device is (as the device opens!!) I was at the edge of my seat. When the ships come out of the device to fight, I really felt that they were from a different reality and totally foreign to the rest of the worlds. What a great scene and camera angles. The fighting and resolution to end the fighting was in perfect sync to the rest of the plot. It would have been nice to see a face behind the ships though.SPOILER END!!! I highly recommend the B5 movie Thirdspace to all. I have since seen Call to Arms and Crusade and still thing that Thirdspace is the better of the three.
