I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.

Best movie ever!

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Starts off really well but highly disappointing second half. Do not fall for the good reviews. this movie is bs.

Wow. This is a film for hardcore gore and imagery lovers. I'm home sick binge watching horror flicks and came across this gem. I absolutely hate reading subtitles, but they weren't too distracting in this flick. There is some downright disturbing imagery in this one, it is not for the squeamish. I didn't find any of the characters very relatable (are the supposed to be?) but I was entertained. Not much in terms of plotting etc, but again, they have a solid mood and atmosphere.

Baskin is a a beautifully made film. I'll give it that. The visuals are striking and beautifully composed, the sound design is interesting, the actors appear competent, and even the general concept has potential for greatness. Unfortunately, the pacing is all over the place. I was told this was originally a short film and you can tell. It feels padded in strange places where it shouldn't be and feels like it takes nearly an hour for our lead characters to get to this film's vision of "hell." It picks up steam a bit in this section and supplies us with some very creepy, nightmarish visuals. After our leads are captured, the pacing slows back down again and the climax never feels very satisfying. All in all, this is a film to watch simply for the visuals and atmosphere. Don't go in expecting much of a story or attention to pacing and you should be fine.

Cops respond to a distress call from another unit. When they arrive at the abandoned police station the call came from everything goes weird and gory.Visually arresting and well scored this movie does make an impression but doesn't make much sense. By making the cops out to be quite scummy at the beginning of the story it made it so I wasn't really rooting for them. The locale is good with the abandoned police station having a very eerie feeling. The constant dream sequences while at first impressive become a bit tiresome when you realise the movie is lacking in narrative drive when most of what you see turns out to not really have happened. For me it felt reminiscent of Some Italian splatter like Fulci where plot played second fiddle to imagery and mood. I am in no way saying it is in league with Fulci but it has a similar feel to the likes of The Beyond and City of the living dead. The master stroke of Baskin comes in the casting of The Father character which to me was akin to seeing Michael Berryman for the first time in the Hills have eyes. This actor has such a striking appearance it just adds to the feel of the movie. The plot really is the weak link in the whole production with the ending being one of those you've seen a thousand times in horror movies. Very tiresome to see it end in such a contrived and over used way. Overall I think I could probably watch this movie again but it isn't one I would heartily recommend.
