Fantastic!
Am I Missing Something?
A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.
Jason is accidently revived from his watery grave by a girl with psychokinetic abilities to go on another rampage, killing horny teens. As many reviews have pointed out this is a kind of Jason vs Carrie affair and while it's an interesting idea I just wasn't convinced by it, it didn't quite work for me. There is a high body count but sadly very little gore, probably down to censorship. On the plus side there's a fair amount of female nudity and part 7 is when Kane Hodder made his debut playing Jason, a role that he made his own. It's a pity that from this point the series went down hill but I'm a fan and if they'd made a hundred Friday's I'd watch them all!
View MoreAfter Tommy Jarvis left Jason to rot chained at the bottom of the lake we thought we'd seen the last of Mr Voorhees, but no a psychic girl accidentally frees him and you know the rest.Thats right Jason Voorhees goes on another rampage indiscriminately killing more 20 somethings with very little story actually present. This however marked the first time Kane Hodder took on the hockey mask and as ridiculous as it sounds you can really tell and new life is breathed into Jason. Now rotted, chain around his neck and looking seven shades of undead Jason looks amazing and scarier than ever before. Sadly the death sequences in New Blood are more cutaway poorly constructed nonsense and considering this is the 7th movie in the franchise there really is no excuse.New Bloods greatest weakness is the finale, the movie builds up to the final battle really well, draws it out into a lengthy encounter but then hits you with a moronic unexplained baffling twist just before the credits.New Blood isn't bad and it marks a really turning point for Jason, but as a standalone film it's not the strongest part of the franchise. The Good: Jason looks amazing Kane Hodder The Bad: Weak death scenesAwful finale Things I Learnt From This Movie: A magnifying glass is a cheap alternative to a penis pump Jason Voorhees may have a window fetish No matter how fast you run Jason Voorhee's walk is faster
View MoreAn extremely tedious retread of the tired formula which proved to be the last gasp for "teenagers in the woods" stalk-and-slashery. From then on the series was forced to move in different directions to retain interest but it wasn't long before the audience died away altogether. For the first hour this is lamentable, with boring teenagers, moronic humour, and a sappy romantic sub-plot between two central characters. It's only when a couple of the teenagers are remaining that you can put names to the faces; otherwise they're completely interchangeable and cardboard cut-outs as usual. There's a black couple with a predictably short life-span; an ugly duckling who becomes beautiful and bites it; a flirt who cruelly plays with the men; a sci-fi geek who lives in a fantasy world; a bland guy who turns out to be unexpectedly resourceful and all manner of other boring people. Hell, they even re-use the old "car breaks down" routine from one of the previous unmemorable instalments. The only actor of interest in this film is Terry Kiser, and judging by his credentials he was particularly strapped for cash the year this was made. Kiser puts in a good performance as a corrupt doctor using the heroine's telekinetic abilities for his own benefit, and his acting sticks out a mile from all the other efforts here. I especially liked the bit where, attacked by Jason, he throws a female victim at his opponent instead in order to escape! Hey, it's only human nature...The death scenes here manage to be quite creative in places, with Jason picking up all manner of garden tools to do his business - I especially liked the hedge-trimmer scene, which was definitely one of the film's highlights. In other moments he bashes a sleeping-bag clad victim into a tree, crushing her, and pokes out other people's eyes. Heads are decapitated, faces slashed off and there are more impalings than you can shake a stick at. Sadly the BBFC butchers have been at this film again, so all of the gore is kept offscreen, resulting in a very pointless and hollow movie.Directed by John Carl Buechler, better known for his special effects work, this has a lethargic pace up until the final twenty minutes where it actually becomes quite good. The final battle is between the heroine, a CARRIE-esque girl with telekinetic skills which she uses to fend Jason off time and time again. In fact it's quite comical. Jason gets electrocuted, impaled with a dozen nails, and burnt alive before he is finally dragged back into the icy waters of the lake for (hopefully) eternity. The special effects are quite impressive here, especially in Jason's "rotted" makeup which has bits of spine and bone protruding from his severely battered body. The unmasking scene also manages to be fairly frightening for a brief instant. All over, the last twenty minutes of this film are worthwhile, but fast-forward over the build-up - or you'll be severely bored.
View MoreFriday The 13th Part VII:The New Blood is a terrific and entertaining sequel that combines great direction,a good cast and a memorable score. All of those elements make The New Blood a solid Horror film and one of the the better films in the FFriday The 13th series.Friay The 13th Part VII:The New Blood tells the story of Tina(Lar Park Lincoln),a trouble young woman who has telekinetic powers who by accident resurrects Jason Voorhees(Kane Hodder)who is back to kill more campers. Two years after the excellent, thrilling and high octane sequel Friday The 13th Part VI:Jason Lives came the 1988 release Friday The 13thLPart VII is a fantastic and entertaining sequel that is notable for being the first of four Friday The 13th movies starring fan favorite Kane Hodder in the role of Jason Voorhees which is called the Kane Hoddeer era which also includes Jason Takes Manhattan,Jaaon Goes To Hell and Jason X but out of of the four movies The New Blood is the best of them all. If you knew the Friday The 13th series like the back of your hand you know what to expect with this film:a high body count of Slasher movie ste, kills and our favorite Hockey Mask wearing Serial killer doing what he does best and that is slaughtering people. The New Blood expands on the supernatural elements that was in Jason Lives and takes it a step further by adding a telekinetic element to the film The Friday The 13th series was at it's creative peak by Part VII but at least at it's peak it tried something new. Where as Jason Lives had Humor and some dun The New Blood's tone is very dark and bleak and has almost no laughs but that's one of the things I like about this one. And what about the known staples of the3 franchise such as the kills blood and gore well while the kills are interesting and at times good they lack the creativity and suspenseful build-up you saw in some of the other films although there is a couple stand outs including one with a sleeping bag that is great. Also, the blood and gore of the film while still there is toned down(the MPAA forces the film makers to do a lot of cuts cuts). The movie's fine the way it is but I wanted to see more blood, gore and carnage. Despite being a slow and rotting corpse Jason Voorhess is still as brutal as and angry as ever coming at his victims like a force of nature using any weapon that he can get his hands on axes, knives and even a buzz saw. What can also be seen as supernatural and an interesting addition to the Jason Voorhees character is that Jason in this one(even in Jason Takes Manhattan) is like a phantom or ghost appearing anywhere at anytime he wants making him more powerful and dangerous and leaving his prey helpless. The New Blood can be best described as Jason meets Carrie White with Jason meeting his match in the character Tina. Unlike the other protagonists in the Friday The 13th series who have to fight with their hands,Tina has an amazing gift of telekinetic power where she can move objects with her mind which includes Jason. The final battle between Jason and Tina is one of the best and most thrilling in the series from a visual and physical standpoint as we have never seen Jason dominated by a person he's chasing and you don't know who's going to win or lose. With the exception of Tina and a few other characters most of main characters are pretty much forgettable and are just there to be victims of Jason and you won't be surprised to see them go. If there is something that will divide Friday The 13th fans or will have them scratching their heads is the ending which I thought SA good but random and very surprising. An interesting ending. The cast is good. Kane Hodder is excellent as Jasonn Vooorhees, with Hodder being menacing and intense. Lar Park Lincoln is wonderful as Tina, the heroine of the film. Kevin Spitas does a fine job as Nick,Tina's lover interest. Susan Jennifer Sulivaan id terrific as Melissa,a mean girl. Terry Liser is great as Dr. Crews,Tina's Doctor Susan Blu does a fine job as Mrs. Shepard,Tina's Mom..The direction by John Carl Buecheler is fantastic with Bucheler bringing a dark atmosphere that goes with the tone of he film. Fine direction,Bucheler. The score by Harry Manfredini and Fred Mollin is fantastic, intense and gripping and adds to the film. Great score,Manfredini and Rollin. In final word,if you love the Friday The 13th series,Horror films or Slasher Movies,I highly suggest you see Friday The 13th Part VII:The New Blood,a terrific sequel that is one of the best in the series. Highly Recommended. 9.5/10.
