"Pathology" is another med school horror flick like the previously reviewed "Anatomy", except Americanized and in English. Before the credits a title card displays the Hippocratic Oath, then brings us into the life of young Dr. Ted Gray, played by Milo Ventamiglia". An extremely smart robot, I mean human, who graduated from Harvard medical school and just got back from a Unicef tour in Africa. Pathology is the study of the cause and effects of disease. Figuring out what killed a person and why. Ted accepts a position at a prestigious pathology program and must once again leave his fiancé for a long period of time, which she seems pretty okay with. Ted is introduced to the other students who amount to the cool kids at any high school. A tight knit group of immature cocky kids who try to outdo each other at everything. Early on we get a big dose of dissected corpses and gross out jokes, but Ted seems to be taking the high road (at first anyway). He is ethical in the treatment of the cadavers and shows up a lot of the other students with his far out theories of how certain people were killed.Ted's loneliness finally gets the better of him and he finally joins the ranks of the "cool" kids and they introduce him to their secret game. Each of the students has to try to commit the perfect murder. While the others must find out how it was pulled off. Needless to say the story and so-called plot are absolutely absurd. Not to mention the added spiciness of several sex scenes, although not with any of the dead people (darn). Although sometimes done in the same room as dead people. Mmmm it must smell good in there, sexy.Ted is not the good guy and hero he is originally made out to be as he is easily seduced into violating his ethics and morality for a few cheap thrills. When things really start to get serious and his life and career are in jeopardy he goes to extremes to protect himself and then some. Just like life though nobody is perfect and to protect a way of life or an image some will go to extreme lengths."Pathology" is not a good movie but it has a bunch of sexy people doing sexy things with a dash of gore. If that's all your looking for than by all mean watch it, but know you have been warned.

Pathology wasn't too bad. These are my thoughts after watching the film for the first time. Twenty-five minutes in, I kept saying to myself how messed up the film is. It was gritty, violent and a tad oversexed but it had potential. The story was unique- Residents committing perfect murders and being able to cover them up on the job. Not unlike a group of Hannibal Lectors as they harness the craft. Milo Ventimiglia's character was deceiving. I honestly didn't see him turning into one of them- I thought he would have remained a good guy throughout. But his transformation segment is where I turned a disliking eye towards the film. The drugs, the not well-placed sex scenes and the nonchalant attitudes of Doctor's who were committing murder as a game... It all felt like a failed attempt at making the story seem more raw. How cool and collected the four doctors besides Gallo and Grey behaved made them look like incomplete replicas of Tyler Durden; and not nearly as interesting as his character was. Alyssa Milano's character was unfortunately "bland"- almost as if they didn't need to cast a name as big as hers for such a minute role. Her death was something of a surprise, as I had anticipated a typical movie story where the good guy re-emerges inside of Milo and he somehow saves the day for everyone. After she died, I figured that he would do one of three things: (1) Set a trap for Gallo where both of them would take the fall for the fire and Gwen's murder (as with her death, Grey would have lost his raison d'être) (2) Leave the hospital and live on the run (3) or end up getting killed by Gallo making his story somewhat realistic. However, Michael Weston's character is an unrealistic individual. Is it possible for a psychopath to become a doctor? Of course. But a doctor such as him who more than likely grew up privileged, going crazy without anyone of note knowing, perfecting a murder routine at his age (while not having become an established M.D.) with enough charisma for others to follow his lead and displaying the habits of a pimp? It's a bit of a stretch. So keeping that in mind I was prepared for any type of ending and was leaning towards disappointment. Within the last 5 minutes, i was prepared to give the film a 5 out of 10 stars. But the ending surprised me quite pleasantly, I must say. The doctor who had a man-crush on Milo's character coming to save the day- a bit unrealistic but his revere for Grey had been established in the film more than once before this scene ever took place so his involvement in Gallo's downfall wasn't entirely random. Grey's description of his girlfriend's death while a paralyzed Gallo listened as Grey chose to forgo the mercy he showed to Gwen, was sadistically sweet. The ending bumped my rating up one star; I gave it a 6. The writing could have been better and the cinematography was a tad boring but it was a decent story that was portrayed by good actors and the pace was solid enough to tell the story without losing anyone's attention. If I watch it again, I may juggle the rating between a 5 and a 6 only because the surprise is not linger a factor, but overall, it was a decent film.

This movie was the biggest waste of time ever !! Not only was the plot and script CRAP the actors were very terrible too!!! I expected so much more from Alyssa Milano. The corny come up with the "good doctor" gone bad is just stupid. Why would he not like Jack at first if in the end he was just gonna buddy up with him. Now I like horror and thriller and crime movie but this was unacceptable. There was no motive, no concept... Just a cheap budget film with amateur sex scenes and gore. I would have rather watched Saw. I expected so much more of this movie and it could have been better if they had a different director and script. This movie had so much potential and I'm so disappointed how it turned out. IF YOU CAN AVOID THIS MOVIE PLEASE DO BECAUSE IT WILL BLOW YOUR BRAINS HOW STUPID IT IS!!!!

Brilliant young medical student Ted Grey (a solid and engaging performance by Milo Ventimiglia) joins the pathology department at a major big city hospital so he can realize his full potential. Ted finds his life and morals turned upside down when he becomes involved with an elite group of decadent individuals led by the cocky and evil Jake Gallo (splendidly played with wicked aplomb by Michael Weston) who concoct various diabolically crafty ways to commit perfect murders and get away with them. Director Marc Scholermann, working from a grimly absorbing script by Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine, offers a genuinely startling exploration of the darkest aspects of the human psyche and man's frightening capacity for shocking extreme brutality and depravity. Moreover, Scholermann relates the compelling story at a constant snappy pace, does an ace job of creating and sustaining an unnerving morbid atmosphere, makes fine use of the often cold and dimly lit locations, and delivers oodles of unflinching graphic gore as well as a sizable amount of hot'n'kinky sex. The sound acting by the capable cast keeps the movie humming: Ventimiglia and Weston both do sturdy work in the leads, with excellent support from Lauren Lee Smith as the sultry, cunning, and duplicitous Juliette Bath, Johnny Whitworth as the smooth Jimmy Cavanaugh, John de Lancie as the no-nonsense Dr. Quentin Morris, Alyssa Milano as Ted's sweet fiancé Gwen Williamson, and Keir O'Donnell as affable wimp Ben Stravinsky. Larry Drake pops up in a small part as a scuzzy victim. The absence of any humor and the overall chilling tone both greatly enhance the picture's considerable unsettling impact. Ekkehart Pollack's glossy cinematography gives the picture an impressive stylish look. The brooding score by Johannes Kobilke and Robb Williamson does the moody trick. A nice'n'nasty surprise.
