Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

Just imagine how bad this movie would be without Gary Oldman. How they talked him into this is beyond me. It's like throwing a Rose into a big bowl of crap. Terrible acting (other than Oldman), cheeseball effects, horrible writing. 20 minutes in, and I'm ready to stab my eyeballs with a pencil.

Right,so I saw this abomination last year.I didn't think very much of it until I saw it again last week.It was then ,that I realized :It's terrible. It's like someone hired a seventeen year old girl and said 'write me a Twilight fan fiction and I'll turn it into a movie'. Honestly , I think that's what actually happened. I'm not saying that this is as bad as bad as Batman and Robin, but too be honest its not too far off it. The one thing I really hate about this movie is that it is so unoriginal. It's like Cluedo and Twilight had a baby that grew up and started wearing a big red cape on its back. I mean seriously:A girl who lives in a small ,very isolated town and has absolutely nothing special about her is caught in the middle of a love-triangle, and she is willing to run away from this so called 'European' town where everybody except Gary Oldman has an American accent, just to be with on e a these guys.Oh yeah and there's a werewolf involved .Sound familiar? As far as visual effects go, its pretty good. Acting was overall up to the standards of tired toddlers . But I must admit, there are some very clever twists and turns that you probably won't see coming. Overall, this movie was pretty rubbish.Unless your a Twilight fan girl. Then its probably the best movie you've ever seen. I hope for the sake of your sanity, that it's not.

Red Riding Hood (2011): Dir: Catherine Hardwicke / Cast: Amanda Seyfried, Gary Oldman, Billy Burke, Shiloh Fernandez, Virginia Madsen: An impressive attempt to create a horror film out of the famed bedtime story. I never understood the title. I suppose she has a red hood but what is she riding? Is it a reference to innocence? A village is terrorized by a werewolf and the people are fighting back but with failed results. Amanda Seyfried plays the title role. Her mother desires that she marry into wealth but her heart is with a logger. She conceals a secret and that is her ability to understand the werewolf's thoughts. She will discover old family secrets and the ability to love despite unbearable odds. Gary Oldman enters as a famed werewolf hunter once the villagers slain the wrong wolf. His methods are cruel but he will learn the hard way that it can retaliate with fatal results. Billy Burke plays Seyfried's father who will be a suspect in the eyes of viewers. Shiloh Fernandez plays the logger whom Seyfriend is in love with yet forbidden to see due too his social status. Once she begins understanding the werewolf she will become suspicious of him. Virginia Madsen also graces the film with her presence. Director Catherine Hardwicke made the popular Twilight for which much of the inspiration for this film is owed but the ending is more understanding than hokey. With tremendous winter landscapes and thick ominous forests, and music that rises tension as if aware of the wolf's presence. This is an underrated visual take for a new generation. This is a rousing thriller and intriguing interpretation of the classic tale. Score: 8 / 10

I liked this, it wasn't great, but it was good enough, an interesting interpretation of a Grimm's fairy tale and clearly aimed at the Twilight fans. Well either that or Catherine Hardwicke can only make a certain style of movie because style wise they are very similar. The opening is actually almost identical with overhead forest shots and a girl's voice-over. The CGI wolf is identical, the filming location was also the same which didn't help matters and then we have Billy Burke AKA "Charlie" as the Dad.I did get wrapped up in this though, following a young medieval girl who falls for an orphaned woodcutter even though her parents have arranged for her to marry another boy, her sister has just been killed and a wolf is stalking the village. The love triangle was suitably angsty and the mystery of "who" the wolf is going to be was well done (I didn't at all suspect that outcome). Unfortunately the flashbacky way of explaining things was kinda lame. Some of the cinematography is beautiful here, the contrast of Valarie's red cape billowing in the white snow, the cool look of Grandma's house (I want to live there). I did have a bit of an issue with the fact that its continually snowing yet nobody seems to feel the cold and dresses in t-shirty type clothes. A decent cast here too including Gary Oldman as the werewolf hunter, Lukas Haas, Virginia Madsen and of course Amanda Seyfried as Valarie. 12/17/14 Burnaby B.C plays some medieval folksy town where snow isn't cold.
