Very well executed

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.

The movie is a dark one for one with Arnold in it. The story is allright. The combination of a police investigation and the team isn't worked out too well and feels a bit problematic.

Sabotage might best be summed up as a Schwarzenegger classic highlighting all the nuances that only Schwarzenegger film can. Corny, daft and borderline buffoonery are all adapt words for this profiterole of nonsense.The movie poster too is fine illustration of just how absurd the movie actually is; displaying a movie that probably best belongs in the 80's.If you watch the film with low expectations then it's actually pretty good and that's down to the whodunit style plot the premise of the film sits on, a premise that remains until its climatic reveal toward the end.The film also benefits from the brutality one rarely sees in a Schwarzenegger film, it's unexpected and brings a sense of foreboding and realism to the story.Unfortunately, the pinnacle that ruins any willingness in trying to accept the movie is the ridiculous car chase at the end. From that moment on, the viewer is left finishing the film simply because it's only a few minutes awayDirected by David Ayer, one must wonder what was going through his mind when he thought this is what Hollywood needed...So with all said and done, it's a daft movie that isn't dreadful but simply okay.

I like to think that I'm fairly film savvy. Many times I can tell you exactly what's gonna happen next because I've seen it in countless other films and it can be rather painful to watch. Thus, how pleasant it is to see a plot twist that you never saw coming. This film has two of them.On the surface, Sabotage looks like the typical Schwarzenegger film: Guns, action, and more guns and more action. But what it really is, is a character study of a tortured man. Arnold will never win an award for his acting and there are a couple moments that are rather cringe worthy but still, he's solid and capable. But, the acting around him is nothing less than first rate. My favorite was Olivia Williams who plays a cop investigating the murders of members of Schwarzenegger's crack DEA team. I'd heard the name, but her face wasn't familiar to me. Turns out she's a British, Shakespearean actor; yet, there was not a trace of any of that in this film! Strangely, this is one of Arnold's best films. Mainly because he gets to play a character he's never played before and it works. Therefore, I find it hard to believe that Sabotage didn't get much attention - I just recently came upon it over the internet - it's gotta great cast, a talented, accomplished, writer director (David Ayer), and a compelling story line. Because I've seen so many unoriginal films lately, it's not always easy for one to hold my attention. I wouldn't say I was riveted to the screen, but Sabotage did hold my attention without giving me the feeling that I was being falsely manipulated. Which is what you want any film to do.

Yes, it is a very political movie. It presents the point of view that the militarisation of the US Police force is not something to be questioned, but to be celebrated and sensationalised. After all, in this film the cops need the light armoured personnel carriers, the assault rifles, the full camouflage ballistic body armour and of course the tactics of urban warfare because they are fighting foreign drug cartels armed with 50 calibre machine guns for goodness sake! Not US citizens.The fact of the matter is that giving this kind of impression to the public trivialises and undermines a very serious current debate about what kind of role are we asking our Police to perform? I.e. should they think of themselves as soldiers fighting an actual war on crime in the heart of America, or should they think of themselves as peace keepers who serve the public interest and keep people safe? It wouldn't take a huge leap of the imagination to guess that Arnold is totally behind the idea of Police as warriors. And I'm sure he is as eager as the rest of us to see the cops use all their cool battlefield gear. The trouble is that it may just encourage that military hardware to be more frequently deployed against normal citizens in the US as the public become desensitised to it and certainly goes a long way to making it appear not only normal, but cool.The worst kind of mindless and irresponsible crap to come out of Hollywood in recent years. Only watch if you want an example of the way in which the media is used as a propaganda tool to push the political opinions of lobby groups and right wing financiers.
