After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

Yet another wonderful outing from the man, George A.Romero. I was pleasantly surprised with this movie, unlike so many others, who seem to think that George Romero's "Of the Dead" movies of late, should all follow the formula used by nearly all other zombie movies of the last decade. Fact is, and should always be, that George Romero makes the movie he wants to make. Sure, continuity is all over the place, from film to film. Who Cares! Its Fantasy, Fiction, Make Believe! None of which should necessarily be logical, or make perfect sense. Fact is George made the movie he always wanted to make, more or less, he just threw zombies in the mix. I thought the whole concept of this movie was fresh for the zombie genre, what with, families that had been feuding for generations, an isolated island, twins who both get turned, and plenty of humor throughout. Every minute of this movie felt to me like an authentic George Romero zombie classic, and I can only hope that he keeps making the films he wants to make.

Sarge Nicotine Crockett (Alan Van Sprang) is disillusioned with the military and the fight against the zombies. He leads a group of former military as bandits. Meanwhile six days after the dead started walking, Patrick O'Flynn (Kenneth Welsh) leads an effort to destroy the dead. The O'Flynns has a long feud with the Muldoons on Plum Island off the coast of Delaware. Seamus Muldoon (Richard Fitzpatrick) leads his family keeping his undead relatives waiting for a cure. Seamus exiles Patrick and some of his men to the mainland. Then later, there is a battle between Crockett's men and the O'Flynns at the docks. Sole survivor Patrick goes back to the island with Crockett's group. There they find the island teeming with the undead and the Muldoons in charge. The whole idea of family feud on an island is stupid. It feels like an idea from a century ago especially with all the Irish accents. The general quality is B-movie. Most disappointing is the quality of the CGI. If the CGI would be that bad, then I would rather have all real effects. There are so many ways to make this great and it does none of it. It starts with the bad writing. Of course, the budget is pretty low for a modern movie with that much ambition. There are some lame attempts to be funny. And it's not funny enough to be campy. It is a disappointment. Others have taken the genre to higher heights leaving Romero behind.

Dawn of the Dead (1979) is on my top 3 movies of all times. I also love Day of the dead. Both of those movies has zombie-logic. You would pretty much do the same thing if you were in that situation. I would definitely land my chopper on the roof of a super mall and clean it out from zombies and live there. If I was one of few surviving military guys I would definitely stick around in the bunker until we felt safe to resurface the world. But Survival of the Dead biggest problem is the lack of reasonable logic which makes the movie crumble because you just can't put that aside for the gore effects, they're not that cool.Let me just give you one example of the logic in this film.Alright so the man got banned from the island, he then go about making a YouTube promo for anyone to come live on his island. Someone finds it and they head straight over to any harbor mere minutes away from their current location. Stoke of luck because there the banned man stands waiting for them but he wont take them to the island he promised, he wants to rob them of all the money they have (you need lots of money when 99% of humanity is gone) so the banned man and his band of bandits start shooting at the people, I think they also kill one guy. So the people shoots back and after a while the banned man is the only survivor of the band of robbers so he jumps on the boat the other people got over. Not mention a word about the recent shoot out but they are all super friends now. So off to the island they go, just outside Delaware where everyone speaks Irish for some reason. What?Of course you should set logic aside watching movies but there's a limit to how much your brain can take before it gets very confusing and you can't enjoy the story because the illogical stuff gets in the way.

What a total disappointment. Having grown up with all the "Dead" movies that Romero had done, I cannot believe this crap of a movie was done by the master of those other greats! It wasn't scary or funny. The zombies looks more stupid-looking than dead-looking. And the worst thing for me was that damn music score! OMG! How irritating and obnoxious! It gave the whole movie a cartoon-like feeling. I feel had Romero used a score like he did in the original Dawn of the Dead and filmed it it with the same kinda of old resolution like he did with Dawn, it could have made in my opinion more watchable but that ridiculous score and almost perfect HD-like picture quality, just drove me insane! I feel Romero has gone way too "Hollywood-like" It's not really Romero anymore. What a shame. I had high hopes for this one because of 'Diary', which I somewhat enjoyed. But this one for me just did me in.Oh Mr. Romero, either go back how you use to film way back in the day or just retire with some dignity and let us the viewers remember you how you use to scare us and not bore us like you do now.
