Just so...so bad

Tyreece Hulme

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

For those of you who grew up in the 80s like me, the old time USA channel only had things to show: WWF, and badly dubbed Kung Fu movies produced by the Shaw Brothers. The plot, as it were, is a combination of all of those movies. The movie is hysterical. No one involved is taking themselves seriously (how could they?) and wow, it sure does look like Russell Crowe is having the time of his life.

This is easily the worst movie I've ever watched. And I have watched a ton of cheap kung-fu flicks, and they are, despite their low production, shallow story lines and predictable plots, waaaaaay better than this... movie.First of all - the plot is horrible. It's just so incredibly dumb. It makes sense that rap "artist" is behind this wreck, because the dialogue, the scenery, everything is so tacky and cringy and awful it hurts. Even something banal, like character hairstyles, makes you want to stop watching, it's so unconvincing a laughably bad. And even the fighting scenes, which are supposed to be the strongest point of this genre, are just horrible. The battle choreography is extremely lousy done and chaotic. Tacky colors don't help either. And above all that comes the sad llama face of the main protagonist, whose acting skills can be compared to those of a brick. I can't in all honesty believe that somebody actually read this script and said "let's do this". There is absolutely nothing good about it. I'm still in shock from what I've seen. I can't imagine bigger fail than making an homage to kung-fu classics in this day and age with all the technology and cinematography available and creating a movie which is undeniably worse than those flicks made with rope and stick 30 or 40 years ago. A fail of epic proportions. And they made a sequel. Unfathomable.

The Man With the Iron Fists (2012): Dir: RZA / Cast: RZA, Rick Yune, Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung: The title regards power and that power is no more exercised than when anyone had the sense to get up and walk out of this circus wreck. RZA stars as a blacksmith and he also directs this garbage and it comes off as a really bad music video. RZA makes weapons in hopes of paying for the freedom of his Asian girlfriend. He ends up having his arms cut off but is tidied up and two iron hands are made that seem to move like actual hands, which makes no sense. Rick Yune is out to avenge the death of his father but ends up getting his ass handed to him by a guy who can turn into solid gold. Russell Crowe enters the picture as a western fighter named Jack Knife and he has a weapon that is half knife and half gun. He helps RZA get patched up and sets to fight this mindless war. Lucy Liu plays Madam Blossom who runs a brothel where much of the action, both violent and sexual, takes place. This is absolute garbage right down to its music video style fight scenes. Why Crowe is embarrassing himself with this crap is a surprise in itself. His first scene has him cutting up a guy called Crazy Hippo. Jamie Chung plays a prostitute whose biggest shame is being part of this pathetic piece of dog sh*t. The special effects are passable but it seems like the screenplay is just one stupid gory stupid fight after another. The best thing to do with this pointless charade is to destroy it using any number of the weapons that the blacksmith manufactures to use on people. Score: 2 / 10

Seeing and hearing about this film gave me the impression it could be awesome and different then other fighting films and with stars as Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu I was hoping for something great, but it doesn't really reach that high on the scale. It does have a lot of good things, there are some great fighting scenes off course those are some of the most important scenes of the film. It have some great, strange and odd characters, but they really fit into the universe. It is filled with action and adventure and the story is an okay one, but it takes itself a bit too serious.I was entertained and had a good time watching it, but I feel it could have been something more and could have been better in many ways.
