What would you do on the last day on Earth? With the end of the world only hours away, the self-absorbed James heads to the ultimate party-to-end-all-parties. On his way there, he saves the life of a young girl named Rose who is searching desperately for her missing father. This simple act sets James on a path to redemption.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

I love "End of the world movies" in general, but this one is hands down the best one.The acting is amazing, the plot isn't that complicated (given the situation what else could happen?) and the atmosphere throughout the whole movie si just... Unique.Once you finish watching the movie you're gonna feel empty, and trust me, there's nothing that is gonna make that go away. Just WATCH IT. Nothing else. Enjoy this masterpiece.

Meet James. He's an immature guy living his life from one bottle to the next. He's a terrible boyfriend and a cheat. His relationship with his mother is nonexistent. He's a terrible friend. He's an alcoholic and full of aggression and rage and just doesn't care about anyone or anything....until he meets Rose, an innocent little girl looking for her father, on this day, the last day before the end of the world. It might not seem like much, but this is a touching heartfelt story of redemption. It raises the questions: Is it too late to change? Is it too late to realise your mistakes and atone for them? What starts off slow pays off if you stick with it. As you progress through the journey with James and Rose, you'll find yourself caring more and more about them. The climax is worth it and if you don't shed a tear, you'd hardly be human. This is without a doubt one of the best hidden gems I have ever seen. Truly a magnificent experience on a limited budget, but so much more. It's a story that will leave a lasting impression and cause you to look inside yourself. Are you living as well as you could be? What if you didn't have time to correct your sins?Do yourself a favor and see it. I promise that you won't regret it.

I've skipped over this for weeks on Netflix but tonight I decided to watch it. It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I felt the atmosphere was good throughout most of the movie. A good mixture of the extremes and moderation you might find in this kind of situation. The cinematography was good with interesting tones for the sky and most scenes. What I liked were the bits and pieces unexplained like what had happened to the father? What happened to that large family group in the end? If it was by agreement then why the haphazard positions of the bodies? What hit the earth? Why was there such a break in James' family? Pieces we likely didn't need but we wonder about. What was lacking to me was the sense of distance. I don't know Perth or the places being mentioned but you have the feeling that there are long drives everywhere. Yet by the end of the movie you feel the first girlfriend sea side cottage, James' sister's house, his mother's, the party and Rose's aunt's are all not that far apart. Yet we seem to be spending much too much time in vehicles.Overall it was worth watching. Always nice to see a movie set somewhere you don't know and with actors you don't recognize. Overall the acting was good including the actress who played Rose - except she needs to practice her crying. No sappy ending.
