Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
View MoreFanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
View MoreThe film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
View MoreJames Gandolfini tries to convey a vision through his acting that is real in his comprehension. A lot of his role is not acting and that is the part that cuts you like a knife, it makes it a legacy film like no other. He is aware of his coming demise in reality and in the film, When he explains himself a lot of is answer is just who and what his life really is. A lot of it is just acting and even the acting is great. The two girls are so innocent and since they are they don't have a blackened souls yet, even though such people would be very dark in some crazy way it could be possible in this crazy world to have such innocent assassins. It makes them into tools like men, but they are so efficient that men are just tools to them. James brings them to an unveiling of reality that comes to the viewers eyes. Like an indelible mark his presence will remain forever in daisy's heart and in you from his soul to yours. This is one of the classics forever.
View More'Violet and Daisy' tells the story of a pair of teenage assassins who get more than they bargained for on their latest job, namely someone who actually WANTS to be assassinated. Now, the first question you may ask if you hear that is WHY does the 'mark' want to be 'offed' by a pair of gin-totting adolescents. And it's a good question. However, despite the two girls staying with their man for most of the film, they don't seem to get round to asking him. Then, when you do finally find out (about three quarters of the way through the film) there isn't really anywhere else left to go.It starts off well enough. I found the opening kind of similar to Guy Ritchie's 'Snatch' as the two girls disguise themselves and chat happily on their way to their first 'job' of the day. However, despite all the nice talk, the dialogue isn't ever quite as snappy as a Guy Ritchie or Tarrantino film. All the performances are good and James Gandolfini deserves a special mention, as he does his character with a lot of pathos, helped no small part by the fact that, in the film, he wants to die and, not long after, he sadly got his wish in real life.Whereas the film could have explained, or possibly delved into how using teenagers (who are still just about young enough to be considered – sort of – innocent), it never really touches on the subject, choosing to string the story out as to why James Gandolfini wants to die for as long as possible. It's not a bad film, but it could have either done with being cut down by about half to make it tighter, or taken in a more focused direction. In the end it ends up as a sort of half-hearted homage to a Guy Ritchie/Tarrantino film that never really lives up to its potential.http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
View MoreToo Cute by Two, this is Another in the Girls with Guns Subgenre that can be Entertaining like Hana (2011) and Kick-Ass (2010). It also Borrows Heavily from that Tarantino Sensibility of Colorful Excess and Slightly Removed Ambiance. But there is Little Wit here that makes these Things Joyful Jaunts into Comic-Book Land. The Movie Looks Good and the Actors All seem to be On but the Story is so Weak and the Dialog so Trite and the Side Characters and Stories are so Uninteresting that the Film comes off as an Idea not Realised and a Script from the Reject Pile that was Dusted Off but Never Polished. In the End it is Attractive Visually but is not At All as much Fun as it Thinks it is and that is definitive Pretentiousness. The Lollipop Licking and the Bubble-Gum Blowing are more Cringe than Creative and more Obvious than Clever. It is a Misfire that Overall, it really doesn't Matter because the Film is Shooting Blanks.
View MoreI thought this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I got it mainly because I was looking for more things that the Orphan Black chick is in, and because it had the late, great Mr. Gandolfini. Well, Tatiana is in the movie for about 60 seconds, for one thing.Sometimes movies can be outrageous and unrealistic and still work because of elements of style, great dialogue, etc., but this movie was just stupid. It had tiny bits of style, e.g., the scenes when they were dressed up as nuns on a job. But, the situation, the writing, the nonsensical decision making...it was just too much.I don't think Alexis Bledel did anything to make it better. Maybe if they had a more likable person in that role it would have helped. I recommend that you don't waste your time, unless you really miss Tony Soprano and just fast forward to all of his speaking parts.
