When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.

I'm a huge fan of Father Ted and most of the praise I would give this anarchic, wildly inventive comedy has already been written by other reviewers. But recently, I was struck by the show's great similarity to an old popular BBC sitcom of the late 1960s called All Gas And Gaiters. The main difference was that AGAG was set in an Anglican country parish, but all the same elements are there: A senior priest in the vicarage, a doddery old bishop who likes his drink too much and a young, naïve and accident-prone novice priest. Also, there is the ever-present and domineering Dean who tries to keep the trio in line. Could it be that the writers of Father Ted were simply updating this old English comedy for a modern and more open-minded audience? If so, they did a wonderful job of it, as Father Ted is a classic.

Yes, Father Ted is my favourite TV show of all time. In the UK and Ireland we quote this show as much as the rest of the world quotes The Simpsons, with so many lines and terms from the show becoming implanted into our psyche. I've been watching Father Ted since I was kid and even though I didn't get of any of the adult jokes back then, the wacky and surreal humour always had me in fits of laughter. I don't think there's been a month in the last 17 years that I haven't watched one of its 25 episodes, yet I still can't pick a favourite!Every joke in Father Ted works on so many levels. The setting of the fictional Craggy Island is surely the most backward ended place on Earth but this is all brilliantly downplayed. Whenever anything absurd happens, the characters react in an unsurprised or not surprised enough manner. For example, when Ted discovers Craggy Island has its own Chinatown. Just how does an island off the coast of Ireland have a significant Chinese population and how does a person living there not even know about it?! I could take any joke from this show and list on multiple levels as to why it's so absurd and surreal. The inconsistencies and even the odd plot hole just makes everything funnier.I suspect one of the reasons Father Ted became so successful is that it dispelled the notion that the Irish are completely oblivious to the outside world in the sense that the characters talk about popular culture just like people in any other civilized county would. Granted the characters in every other sense don't act like people in the real world but I believe this one aspect made the show more relatable to a wider audience, from references to bands such as Oasis and Radiohead to various film references (Dougal, we are not watching Aliens!). I'm from Ireland and even to this day I hear stories from Irish people who have gone abroad and meet people who think Ireland is technologically un-advanced country and that we all live in cottages. One story I always remember was an Irish guy telling me of how he told an American he owned an Xbox 360 and the American couldn't believe it.Allow me to hold up my cup of tea to Father Ted. May I continue to watch it for years, with Dougal and Mrs Doyle and Father Jack forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever...

I used to enjoy other sitcoms that were totally different and only realized how good this show is as i got older and became more adapt to the jokes. this is my favorite show of all time and being Irish myself i feel a special connection between the Ireland portered and the real one and to be totally honest there is not that much difference. it is a bit over the top but whats wrong with that its better than most new comedies and the really sad thing is that i don't believe there will be anything like it ever again treasure this it will go down in history as one of the best comedy shows. The show is still fabulous. Father Ted in my opinion is just pure comedy gold

Father Ted is (absurd) comedy at its very best I think. Father Ted lives on Craggy Island with his goofy Father-to-be Dougal. No, its not THAT kind of relationship! They have a moustached maid called Mrs Doyle and the former priest Jack.There are sterling performances by Dermot Morgan as Ted and Ardal O'Hanlon. The dialogue and is incredibly funny and the story lines are, well, peculiar. Mrs Doyle (Pauline McLynn) is wonderful too but also a bit scary...You really have "to dig" Father Ted, my gf does not and seriously think I am demented when I am rolling on the floor laughing. Personally I think that(and yes, it sounds snobbish...so be it)Father Ted is for the true (black-)comedy-gourmet. It teaches one important lesson...Irish are more fun than British and I guess that will come as a shock to some.Yes, the church can be fun, just watch Father Ted.Dermot Morgan died suddenly in 1998, may he rest in peace.
