Great visuals, story delivers no surprises

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

The first few seasons were good, but then they added a civil suit against Sheriff Longmire. It was laughable. The "depositions" were so inauthentic I couldn't stand it. Then the trial of the guy who kidnapped Moretti showed they had no idea how a trial worked. Being a trial lawyer, it ruined the show for me.

This series has been great watching, I enjoy all the different aspects of Wyoming life/the West the writing touches on in the course of the drama.Having just watched the Season 3 closer, I'm a little miffed with the choice of having Barlow Connally apparently kill his own son at the drop of a hat. I haven't watched further tonight to see if this is so, but this strains belief. Even a sociopath, as Barlow is perhaps meant to be (typical evil rich guy, a TV and film standard type) would surely hesitate before blowing away his own son so lightly. The line he throws out before the shotgun blast is pat, to say the least. On the whole, though, the writing, character development and acting have all been well above par. I enjoy the female characters, particularly, there's a nice believability to them, especially for a modern day western.BTW I think Graham Greene is an especially effective villain as Malachi, and since both Lou Diamond Phillips and A Martinez in major First Nations roles are not Native Americans, it's nice that one major Native American role in the series is acted by an Aboriginal actor (though he's from Canada.) I don't know what Native Americans think of the show but it appears to be trying to present a complex and positive image of Aboriginal people and culture.

This show reminds me of "House" where the outcome is pretty predictable. I find my self asking questions throughout the show like "Why is there so much crime in this county?'', "Why is there such a lack of manpower at the Sheriff's Department?" and "Why is a bar owner always tagging along to all the crime scenes?".

Longmire came out on the A&E channel in 2012 and was immediately liked by many viewers, including myself. I rated the series an average of 6 by the time the 3rd season had finished when A&E announced that they were not renewing it.Fortunately Netflix came to the rescue and picked up the series from season 4 onward. They must have influenced the producers of the series, as the show became much more interesting, with more drama and intensity. Gone were the days of a mundane series!Watching season 6 presently, which I believe is the final one, it is time for me to release my final rating which is a sound 7 overall. In this format and heightened excitement we will miss Longmire unless Netflix has a change of mind.
