Rescue 911 is an informational reality-based television series that premiered on April 18, 1989 and ended on August 27, 1996. The series was hosted by William Shatner and featured reenactments of emergency situations that often involved calls to 911. Though never intended as a teaching tool, various viewers used the knowledge they obtained watching the show. Two specials, titled "100 Lives Saved" and "200 Lives Saved," were dedicated to viewers who had written to CBS with their stories on how the knowledge they obtained watching the show allowed them to save the life of someone else. At least 350 lives have been saved as a result of what viewers learned from watching it. The show's popularity coincided with the widespread adoption of the 911 emergency system, replacing standalone police and fire numbers that would vary from municipality to municipality. The number is now universally understood in the United States and Canada to be the number dialed for emergency assistance nationwide.

Rescue 911 Audience Reviews

RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Roxie The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;
ozmunjason28 Is is the greatest tv show even even though it was taken off the air.it will and always be my favorite tv show.
OllieSuave-007 This is a rather exciting reality TV series featuring William Shatner as he hosts police-related stories. As he narrates, actors reenact true events of 911 rescues.It's a very daring, heartfelt and intriguing TV show as it shows the courageous rescuers helping people in distress, sometimes in a heart-pounding race against time.Shatner does a good job narrating, providing a serious and eloquent tone to his voice.One of the better reality chop shows out there.Grade B+
Christopher Batchelor When Rescue 911 originally aired, I always tried to watch this show. I knew that few people ever died in all of it's episode segments, so I knew that nothing weird ever came out of this show. Yes, some came close to it, but never did - and I liked that. It had really great facts that people could really learn from after taking first aid certification courses. Although I remember this show when it was on, I never appeared on it (maybe that's a great thing). I can still remember this show like the back of my hand: The gruesome tales that actually ended in clean endings that you half expected going into each tale. No other shows nowadays come close enough to the power of these shows to this day. I heard there was supposed to be some DVD box set for the first season, but this set later got canceled and so there isn't supposed to be. Ugh!
The_Angel_Hunter This was the very first reality TV show I have watched in my entire life, discovering several reenactments of accidents, police chases, burglaries, robberies, standoffs, etc. for the very first time and how they really occurred. It is also an educational show where they teach viewers how to respond to certain situations, how to perform CPR, and how dispatchers react as soon as they receive those calls for help. I love reality shows, especially those that view realistic crime scenes and car chases. This is, of course, one of them. I used to watch this with my entire family when we were very young. As I watched a few of its episodes, it made me want to think of becoming either a police officer or dispatcher. I thank William Shatner and the others who contributed to this show. Great work! Forget fiction once and for all and let's get into the real world!
