    Very well executed

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

It's all been done before. The problem is that each dreary episode turns into a gossipy soap. There is much more quality crime drama going on every week in the actual major terrestrial soaps than in this amateurish production. The crude flashbacks are like a slideshow gone wrong by Peter Kaye's uncle. Red herrings are thrown around !ike rice at a wedding. By the time of each series' great reveal, one is unfortunately past caring

I can't add to what has already been said about these two Seasons. The incredible writing, acting, plot twists, back stories etc... and it's so refreshing to watch a dectective be so humble, empathetic, pensive and polite to her persons of interest instead of the brash, loud, hard female detectives in US crime dramas. I've been riveted by the episodes of both Seasons so far and can't wait for a third Season.

We enjoyed Ms. Walker in Spooks (Mi5) and River. She seems ageless. In some of her roles, she look like your aunt, while sometimes being very pretty (I mean that in a good way). In this entry, she leads a homicide team checking out, in the first two seasons, 2 separate cold cases. We get to know Nicola's character, and most others quite well (a Hallmark of Brit cinema). As well as good conflict & character development, the show benefits from crisp pacing (6 episodes of 45 mins instead of 8x65). If you are a binge watcher (thank you Netflix and BritBox), you can sample a season in 2 days without booking off work! We found Season 2's storyline superior to the first one. There is a whodunit element to the series, but, as I wrap up Season 2, I can honestly say the writers have played it close to the vest. Enjoy!Footnote: Both seasons involve cases involving 'deviant' sexual behaviour, which is not shown, but discussed, as related to the crimes being investigated. Hence, proceed at own risk.

This review applies to season 1 only. The mystery is well set up, and the characters are sufficiently well-written to give scope to a stellar cast. However, triteness creeps in with the working out of the relationships, and to my mind the "solution" is a rabbit pulled out of a hat. It can't bear the weight of expectation established at the start. As I move on to season 2, I'm hoping that stronger writing will prevent the concept from degenerating into soap opera.
