I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

If you dub yourself a "horror fan" then you have to see this one.Granted the Director's Cut makes things run smoother than the Theatrical Cut, the film is still solid. From the characters to the plot, everything works. Joey Kern as Jeff kills it. Giuseppe Andrews as Deputy Winston? Kills it. James DeBello as Burt is great as well, acting in a similar way to his role in "Detroit Rock City". Rider Strong as Paul is probably the weakest out of the actors for me but I can still get behind his performance. Cerina Vincent as Marcy is great and sexy. Jordan Ladd as Karen is the only other weak point I can see. Even the rednecks from the store work.Everything is how it should be and it's hard for me to try and see anything wrong with it. I just wish it were longer.The score is amazing and I'm not sure if anyone else noticed where some of them originated from. "Last House on the Left", anyone? Yes, some of the scores are from that 1972 film directed by Wes Craven. Those particular scores are by David A. Hess who stars in "Last House on the Left". It fits perfectly and just adds to the greatness and eeriness of this film. The other sounds and scores throughout the film are great, creepy and just make the movie flow so well.The vibe, the shots and the scenery in this film are excellent. Cabin Fever is certainly better than a lot of the people on here have made it out to be. Eli Roth definitely knew what he was doing when he set out to make this film and it was effectively shown. Do yourself a favor and watch it and appreciate it for what it is.

Yep. I "accidentally" found this movie after couple weeks since I watched the "Cabin In The Woods" -movie. This just sounded so similar that I decided to watch it, although I didn't "enjoyed" Cabin In The Woods movie that much.Well, this certainly is better. Not much, but slightly. I think this respect more the original horror genre. This is pure.What I don't like is that there is too much "peekaboo" scenes. Really, it's just annoying. There's no need for them. Especially when you are not in the mood of being scared. I mean I really like the horrifying feeling and atmosphere that film creates, but scaring is really not necessary in this case.Well. It still was a good original horror movie, with twist of some kind of scifi-virus. Very interesting. I think I'm watching the second movie also. it's called "Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever".

This was a great and horrifying movie about some young college students who go out to a cabin and find out that all the water is contaminated and they start getting a skin eating disease. This was Eli Roth's feature film debut, and its really good for only being made of only $1,500,000, The special effects look real nice on film. A neat thing is, that Peter Jackson (the man behind the directional of Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong) gave this film his praise! And boy oh boy did he ever! He himself put his word of approval on the bloody (pun intended lol) DVD box. This is a very good horror film that will leave you disgusted and will think twice before drinking some water in the backwoods. Oh and the shaving scene...oh my...ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Cabin Fever is a great movie that you should see and put Mr. Eli Roth on the map. I give Cabin Fever a 7/10.

Heading to a cabin in the woods, a group of friends enjoying a weekend getaway finds a drifter has contaminated them with a flesh-eating virus and must find a way of dealing with their own afflictions when they contract it as well.On the whole this one wasn't all that impressive and had some problems with it. One of the biggest issues with this one is the fact that the story here is so off-kilter that it really makes no sense at all. The fact that the group doesn't consider the true ramifications of their actions and what's happening here which causes them to stay at the cabin in danger to themselves and others is simply hard to believe as there's no reason why they spend as much time in the second half arguing about their course of actions which tends to run into the same thing over and over. There's no real scares here dealing with the after-effects of the virus, and most of the film here leads into another huge problem in feeling borrowed from the horror giants of the past for so much of what happens unnecessarily that it can't get out of its own way. The central premise of five teenagers at the cabin-in-the-woods, the background characters, the final fate of the group at the end and the random selection of insert shots are among the other instances where the film's influences are put out there, which are the same old scenes anyway. It's getting quite tiresome to keep on making films that homage the same classic films that twenty others have done. There are other film films that have worthy features, yet to continually reference the same films like this one does grows tiresome after awhile. These here are what lower this one significantly while there's a few somewhat fun scenes here. The fact that the threat comes from a relatable and real source gives some punch to it and makes it a little more creepy with a realistic feeling getting caught in that situation. It's best scenes are where it utilizes and milks these factors, from the initial hermit attack on their cabin and the ensuring panic makes for quite a dark, thrilling scene, while the ending bloodbath out in the woods makes for a nicely effective series of action scenes with the townspeople out hunting them through the woods. That leads into the film's other great part as the blood and gore has a lot to like about as the wounds and scars are really life-like which is a nice feat and really has some freaky moments about it. The greatest is the shower sequence where one character shaves their lags and reveals bloody lesions and scars under each the shaving soap with each stroke which is a highly original moment. Otherwise, there's not a whole lot here worthwhile amidst the flaws.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity and several sex scenes.
