Why so much hype?

Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

This is a story of real evil that takes form of a sick guy but the story of him is never fully told here and thats is a good thing really Julia is a beautiful women that has a big heart and know that something is not right in this place where her sister died The dark walls and sound let you know that some evil person is near and wanna take a bite of her but you never know how untill the very end This movie has a good script and fantastic cast Giulia y los Tellarini's version of "the look of love" sets the tone of the movie and is one of the keys here Everyone should see this movie before life is over

A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."Julia's Eyes" (NR - 2010 - Spain)Sub-Genre: Thriller/ForeignMy Score: 7.4Cast=3 Acting=9 Plot=7 Ending=8 Story=10 Scare=7 Jump=6 F/X=7 Thrill=9 Twist=9The story of a woman who is slowly losing her sight whilst trying to investigate the mysterious death of her twin sister. 'You can't hide in the dark' is the roughly translated tagline for this really good Spanish thriller!! I love the story...it was suspenseful and insightful. The thought of losing your sight while knowing there's a killer after you was frightening. Unfortunately the DVD was not dubbed, so I had to deal with the subtitles. It was worth it, though. If you are OK with watching this in Spanish...this movie is hard to beat!!

Julia's Eyes has some pleasures but is content to remain a confused and unfulfilling thriller; only its slowly descending blindness gimmick its one true saving grace. The premise has tinges of a giallo feel: the woman suffering from some disability and/or her lack of understanding/seeing being a central fulcrum of the mystery, and the killer cloaked in shadow and darkness like an other-worldly creature until its all too benign reveal. The plot lacks the ludicrous twists and panache of the best of the giallos and it lacks the strains of credibility to ground the better of the more straight-forward domestic thrillers. It languishes somewhere in between, neither a surreal horror dream nor a taut exercise in genre.

I'm always skeptical of horror films which use consistent jumpscares to frighten the audience instead of more honest, creative methods. Happily, Julia's eyes contains a grand total of one jumpscare, meaning the rest of the film had to find another way of being scary, and I'm happy to report that it didn't disappoint. This has to be one of the only films that has genuinely creeped me out, and it's down to the excellent writing, directing and production. Unfortunately, I can't say that about many other horror films these days.I only came across this film by chance as it was on television one night. I decided to give it a go, which turned out to be a pretty good decision. This is now one of my favourites in the horror genre - brilliantly written and gripping all the way through.
