Good movie but grossly overrated

Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

not feeling well last night (sunday 31 Jan 2016) nothing interesting on TV, so thought a movie with nicholas cage, josh lucas and a few other well know actors would be fun. thankfully i did not see this atrocity when it was initially released in theatres for $15/ticket! it was mind boggling - where to begin? the story itself was ridiculous, the action was childish & cartoonish, all the actors were heavy handed and amateurish and after a while, i realized i was watching a developing train wreck. would love to know who the executive was that green-lighted this production, because he/she should no longer be anywhere near a position of responsibility in any way shape or form in the movie business, maybe producing commercials for TV. i honestly can't see how any of the actors could overcome this blemish on their resumes to even be considered for future roles. although i'm sure Hollywood, which lives in its own head, will continue making moronic movies such as this. so, to answer why i watched till the end? i love movies and was hoping that somehow this movie would turn around, but alas, it was just as stupid at the end as it was in the beginning!!!!

Nicolas Cage stars in this action/crime thriller as Will Montgomery, a professional thief, who comes out of "retirement" when he learns of his daughter's kidnapping, and the only way to get her back is to steal $10m for a ransom.To be honest, the first movie I thought of when watching Stolen was Taken. From the quick description above it may not seem like it and, yes, a couple of details here and there are slightly different obviously, but as you watch it, it really is the same kind of movie - dad's daughter gets kidnapped...dad goes to get her back....dad kills villains who kidnapped daughter.The movie does start off pretty well, and does enough in the first 20 - 30 minutes to keep you watching, but unfortunately it starts falling away after the promising start and struggles to really get going again. Don't get me wrong - it doesn't slow down to a complete crawl, and it does have a few good tense moments and action scenes, but it just tends to get a wee bit boring for the most part. For this type of movie, I was hoping for cat-and-mouse but unfortunately got a tortoise and a snail.All in all, Stolen is not TOO bad of a movie but it is most definitely nowhere near one of Nicolas Cage's best either.

Story: How often have we seen a bank robbing team spilt up with one turning on the rest when a job goes bad? It's easy to create the basic tension between the characters, you add in the resilient cop and we get the basic three way battle, all out to outsmart each other. Having the kidnapped daughter involved makes the villain of the piece look even more villainous. Sounds basic and it is, don't expect any massive twists or turns just enjoy the story unfolding. Good performance from Cage, do what he needs to do without really excelling. (7/10)Josh Lucas: Vincent the twisted former partner of Will who has been through some hard times and even faked his own death biding his time until he can get his money from Will. Good villainous role that does enough to make himself worse than just an old friend out for revenge. (8/10)Danny Huston: Tim the FBI agent who has been tracking Will for years putting his own personal life at risk and just when he thinks he has him he loses out on catching him with the money. Typical FBI agent role, that uses his hat to try and making him look different. (7/10)Malin Akerman: Riley a member of the robbery team that gets away and has turned her life around to become more honest. She helps Will when he needs to resources of his old life to save his daughter. Good supporting role. (6/10)Sami Gayle: Alison Will's daughter who resents him after his time away who gets kidnapped and tries to outsmart her kidnapper. Simple 'Help' performance that offers nothing new. Well Nicholas Cage has done it again. Why is his emotionless and depressing acting style so popular? It is beyond my comprehension. And yet to see movie producers choose him for even more movies is unbelievable.This is a classic case of popular is not the best and definitely not worth paying for. Why do movie companies continue to pay his high salary demands when he delivers pathetic disappointing movies that tarnish the movie entertainment experience not promote it.You wonder what could have been if other actors had been chosen to play his roles. This is one movie where this question remains unanswered.
