Several technical issues really held back the overall movie for me.The overall story is just OK, pretty standard as far as this type of movie goes. The big "twist" in the third act was something I was able to predict all the way back at the gas station. For me it was some of the technical issues that i had a hard time with. The bad guys were able to track a phone just by calling it. If they'd said there was a tracking app on it that would have made a lot more sense and been a lot more plausible in the modern world. When Brea tries to upload the photos it's stopped by the monitor getting shot, which wouldn't have stopped anything other than her interaction with the PC. The photos would have still uploaded just fine. They actually could have made this into a plot point, have everyone die and have no hope, but the pictures still got through, but nope.John getting killed by the shotgun blast was a bit off too. Where the gun was aimed when it went off would have taken a chunk of flesh off, not hit his whole abdomen with pellets, he almost certainly would have survived that shot, or at least lived for hours beyond getting shot.I know I'm being pedantic and complaining about things that I shouldn't think about, but it's lazy writing that the film makers hope will just be overlooked by the audience.

In the special features track of the DVD of "Traffik," writer-director Deon Taylor explained how, as a resident of Sacramento, he felt compelled to make a film about human trafficking when he learned that the Sacramento was #5 in the nation in that horrific criminal activity.Taylor went on to describe how in the second draft of the screenplay, he chose to draw the protagonist, an investigative journalist, deeper into the world of human trafficking when she becomes a victim. It turned out that the decision to focus on the horror of being abducted and forced into bondage was made all the more powerful when the journalist Brea has the experience first-hand.A shortcoming of the film was the by-the-numbers action plot and a somewhat predictable ending. The most memorable relationship was that of Brea and a hard-working auto mechanic with whom she has fallen in love. The main action unfolds when the couple escapes to the mountains where the mechanic plans to propose to Brea. Of course, their plans go awry when they stop at gas station and encounter the nefarious creatures engaged in a human trafficking ring. The performances were top notch, and the cinematography was outstanding, with especially creative locations selected. The beautiful terrain was a stark contrast to the revolting subject matter. At one point in the film, one of the mid-level operatives of the human trafficking ring opines, "everything is trafficked!" which is a sad commentary on our world even if the statement has only an iota of truth.

First movie to make my cringe throughout the entire movie, bad acting in regard to Omar Epps and the actress playing his wife(forgive me I can't recall her name). Their characters showed no sympathy and made irrational decisions throughout the movie that didn't make ANY sense with the story line. I had to stop myself from torture and stopped 45 minutes into the movie, bad movie.
