Good movie but grossly overrated

Blistering performances.

Watched the first episode today, loved it and so did my husband I do remember watching the move several years ago and also enjoyed it. cant wait for next weeks episode. When advertised both my husband and I thought it was a movie so we are now very keen to get hold of the books to read. It really is not as far fetched either, Being made in Australia and Australian actors makes it even better, we have a great film industry here. The sets are very realistic and love the setting of the Victorian countryside and my husband could not find much fault with the military arms or vehicles. It was also very pleasing that there was diversity in the cultures. Wishing the series a great run. Is also one series that I want to own.

Like a number of other reviewers I have read all the books, but it must be over 7 years ago. The detail & character development in the books was fantastic & the action sequences were so well written that it was possible to believe you were living every moment with the group! The emotional impact of the events on the characters was also explored in detail, which could never occur in a movie or a TV series! I was extremely pleased to hear that there was an ABC series of the book(s) because I believe John Marsden to be an excellent & talented writer. I really enjoyed the series. I believe the characters were well developed & the action was great & reflective of that of the books. I was disappointed when the series ended & have been meaning to let the ABC know that we should have multiple follow-up series! I am quite disappointed that the ratings for the series is so low when it is an extremely enjoyable & highly satisfying TV drama!

This series is a copy of an Australian production from 6 years ago. That wouldn't be so bad, but that production was a redo of the original "Red Dawn" which was an American film from 1984.So this series is a copy of a copy. Usually when you copy a copy, and so on, you dilute the original so much that the quality is reduced. That example is true in this instance.This series looks like it has such a low budget, with only a small cast of characters. This production is supposed to be an invasion of a large country (Australia) yet we only see about 20-25 invaders, and about the same amount of locals.I have actually fallen asleep watching some of the episodes. The story moves along so slowly I can't even tell if those kids will actually take an offensive action against these invaders. I am starting to think that it would be better if they were killed so that this painful TV series would be over. I highly recommend that you forgo watching this and rent the original 1984 film instead.

Have not seen the previous movie nor read the books.Thought the first 3 episodes show promise.The main actors are doing a reasonable job of establishing their characters.Will continue to watch and hope the story and characters mature.Time will undoubtedly make the cast more comfortable.I think the selection of shooting sites has shown great talent.Good to see an Australian series that is not jingoistic.The script has included quite enough violence.Well done to the entire team.
