Lack of good storyline.
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.

View MoreI loved this series. I came to it late, after it had been taken off air, and wish it wasn't. I did find the origin stories interesting, Eric Stoltz played it perfectly, balancing the emotions of Graystone the father with Graystone the ruthless businessman, and with Joseph Adama's unwitting help sewing the seeds of the cylon wars to come. I did find his actions curiously cold and calculating in how he obtained his daughter's avatar programme to fuel his business deal. The Adamas storyline for me was the more affecting, the struggle to fit in, with Joseph Adama doing everything to leave his Tauron life behind (including changing his name), but still unable to quite let go, in contrast to his brother Sam's refusal to leave his home world behind, yet both of them growing closer in adversity, and Sam becoming almost father to his nephew as Joseph struggled with the loss of his wife and daughter. Polly Walker's icy turn as Clarice Willow a stand-out amongst fine performances that made up a very satisfactory drama.
View MoreCaprica is an entertaining and informative prequel to the hugely entertaining Battlestar Galactica series, answering many outstanding questions such as how the Cylons came to be, the birth of artificial life, why the Cylon leaders differ from other Cylons and the origins of the one true god faith amongst other things. This series is hugely enthralling with excellent character portrayals, acting and story writing. Poor CGI effects, especially in animating the Cylon robots, and the hurried sense attained from the final 5 episodes are the main two areas that let down this otherwise great series, especially since we have come to expect much more from the Battlestar Galactica franchise on both fronts. A lower budget is evident whilst rushing to wrap things up can be explained by the series being cut early after only 1 season to fans dismay. There was so much more that could've been done here and so many avenues to explore. Overall I was thoroughly entertained by this series and did not want it to end. There were a few problems buy mostly positives especially in conceptual story writing that seamlessly fits alongside the Battlestar story.
View MoreFirst off, "Battlestar Galactica" is without doubt one of my favorite TV-shows. It is a true masterpiece. I just watched the whole thing, and when I learned that there also was a prequel, I was curious. I knew from earlier experiences that spin-offs often is weaker than the real thing, but still I got excited. And yes, "Caprica" is absolutely weaker than BSG, in every way. It isn't a completely disaster, and if you are a BSG fan like me, I advise you to somehow manage to get through it, because there are scenes in there that will get you excited. The problem, however, is that there aren't many of those scenes. I went through all the episodes for one reason; to learn about the making of the cylons. And as i mentioned, here and there I got what I wanted, but why the hell did they include all the other unnesessarities? Most of this show is about the "Holobands", which is electronic glasses that allows you to go into a public virtual world. I won't spoil the plot for any of you that want to watch it, but my point is; If these holobands was so popular that they were in this show, why weren't there crawling of them in BSG? I get it, they tried to make an original plot, but I don't feel that they really showed BSG enough respect. I didn't really believe that this happened before the original series. Also, the religion-aspect got way too much attention. It played an important role in BSG, but here it just felt...unnecessary to give it that much attention. One other problem I had with this show is that it felt targeted towards teenagers. Most of the time it felt like just another over-dramatized cheesy teenage show. That is sad, because what made BSG so fantastic, in my opinion, was that it wasn't cheesy, and that it was more targeted towards adults. In BSG the characters felt real, with realistic personalities, and you really cared about them when you got to know them. They also acted like people would do in different situations In "Caprica", there aren't many memorable characters like that. Also, the acting is on a much lower level. To be fair, I kind of liked the Adama brothers, and the actors that played them. They felt more developed than the rest, but that doesn't make up for the rest of the cast. Another thing that annoyed me was the recycling of some of the same actors that were in BSG. That should not happen in a TV show, prequel or not. It makes things confusing. It may seem like I hate everything about the show. If it had nothing to do with BSG, I would never watch it, but at least it gives some explanations about the past. That makes it worth watching if you're a hardcore BSG fan, even if most of it may bother you. Also, Bear MacCreary's soundtrack is great as always.I see that many people loved this show. Maybe what ruined it for me was that I constantly compared it with Battlestar Galactica. Maybe I would have enjoyed it too, if I hadn't seen the original series..i don't know. It's just a theory, but personally I will never watch it again, and will try to forget I watched it in the first place.
